Was Khamzat vs DDP a simulation of the Khabib vs Tony fight we never got?

The dominant super grappler vs the wild man dynamic tough guy.

I was extremely confident that Khamzat would steamroll DPP, HOWEVER with the Tony vs Khabib fight, I was so emotionally invested in wanting Tony to win that I used many of the extreme copes that we saw from those predicting a DDP victory.

If you remember, the Ferguson fans, very similar to the DDP fans, would say that he would gas Khabib towards the championship rounds and take over. The Tony fight had some other unique copes like elbows from the bottom of a submission that would happen maybe once in 500 fights if not less.

Those leaning towards Khamzat would point out the Brunson fight just as those leanings towards Khabib would bring up Castillo.

The main difference is that Tony would've likely taken a much more vicious beating in the fight, and wouldn't have played it so cautiously from the bottom.

Tony wouldn't have made it to the bell. Khabib by RNC in round 2 or 3. Tony had a great win streak but there are levels to this stuff.

Khabib-Tony would have been completely different.

Tony would never have just turtled in survival mode. And Khabib would never have just settled for positional control without inflicting real damage.

I would have rooted for Tony, but I suspect he would have received a vicious beating.

Tony via 35 second step in elbow, can't stop the bleeding on that moon skull.

No. None of these fighters are similar beyond grappler and awkward.

No, Tony would have won the first fight by doctor's stoppage due to a cut. Then Khabib would have dominated the rematch, and third fight.

I love Tony but khabib would have subbed him quick.

Tony would maul Khabib with elbows+much better grappler than DDP, better cardio + he was crazy man.

Depends on when the fight had happened. The fight was scheduled like 5 times and I think Tony had the best shot in 2015. 2020 Khabib beats him bad.
