Was DC a better boxer than Fedor?

He was a vicious puncher but to call him a boxer is silly
Im not calling him a boxer.

The threadstarter is the one who used that term.

But to say that Fedor was known for hitting guys on the ground and NOT the 1 punch KO's on the feet? Im here to make sure this doesnt occur.

He sure as hell knew how to mix up his punches to the body and the head better than most guys in MMA though

Not to mention his hand fighting

Fedor was a master of the casting punch.

It naturally transitions to a take down. DC had great hips, but he wouldn't have an answer for Fedor's blitz.

Jones did a weaker version of it for that fight when he was cheating and Danny boy had no answer.

Fedor benefitted greatly from the fact that Pride FC wasn't modern MMA. It was founded as an offshoot of professional wrestling with varying degrees of kayfabe. When Fedor fought under the unified rules in an octagon, he struggled to adjust to legitimate competition and ended up being mostly a punching bag.

It wasn't the rule change, it's because it became harder to use PEDs after Pride. Russian fighters back then popped nandrolone like freaking Tylenol.

The UFC is pretty pathetic about testing but Pride basically signed their fight contracts with syringes. Bill Burr style combat.

Lol okey, I simply don't remember. If it wasn't in the UFC it don't count!

I do remember he hit hard as fuck. Maybe they should have more fedor highlights in the Youtube feed. He's a bit forgotten

Neither guy demonstrated great boxing. Fedor was more of a hybrid puncher, using huge whipping strikes that you’ll never be taught in a boxing gym. Workable in MMA but not good technique. His brother Alex seemed to have better fundamentals to me.

It’s also why he broken his hands literally every fight.

Prime for prime straight standup fight with hands? Fedor annihilates DC on handspeed.

Of course boxers are taught haymakers. The overhand right is a formal boxing punch.

Only by those who don't care for the sports history.

I have watched almost every fedor fight... wtf are you talking about? Only in the back end of his career did Fedor begin looking like a striker... he was predominantly a grappler... elite submissions and ground and pound.... his striking was for getting inside to use his amazing trips....

The only reason he went undefeated for so long was due to his amazing recovery and world class grappling... his striking was servicable on the feet...

He was fast and his entries were grear but he like lept forward with his chin up winging punches...

And im not talking shit Fedor is beyond fucking awesome and my second favorite fighter ever after Anderson...

fedor hit faster and harder

But was too sloppy and never adapted his boxing and basically stopped wrestling

I’d take DC , but 2005 fedor is such a wild card

Fedor is a way better boxer even though I feel DC beats him in a MMA fight. DC isn't really a striker. Fedor is a little unorthodox but he knew what he wanted to do while boxing.

Fedor stood with Prime Crocop and won. Has DC ever fought an elite striker in their prime, and kept it standing? He wouldn't box with Derrick Lewis ffs

While Fedor was very easy to takedown. Randleman did it. Chael. Rampage, i still don't see how does DC wins beyond that.

There's a lot of fights where he doesn't exhibit his punching prowess., especially famous ones.
I mean its really not hard to see right away that the fuckin guy can hit very hard. Wether on the feet or on the ground.

To me, who watched him when he was around I never looked at him as a "primarily grappling" guy

He was an all around MMA fighter to me. Heavy punching power on the feet and on the ground.

He had hand traps, head movement and would chain those into trips or just throw a dude to the ground if they got frazzled by one of his heavy (imagine that????) punches.

Later in his career when he couldnt grapple as much he'd just stop people dead in their tracks with his heavy (imagine that???) striking which people seem surprised to see mentioned. I suppose it confuses and frustrates people used to someone doing only one thing. In MMA !

Fedor wasnt easy to take down in his prime.

Coleman, and Randleman were very good takedown artists.

If you didnt blast double him like those guys did you couldnt take him down at all.

DC probably had the skills to do it ,but he wasnt "easy" to take down. We have seen him reverse or hip away from many takedowns.
