well...Uno for instance was game in his 2nd fight vs BJ...and Hansen... well....he beat guys like Uno, Imanari,Yves Edwards etc...

Aoki vs Nagashima gotta be my favorite Aoki fight

The ending was so satisfatory given how the fight was playing out

he was good enough to get the title shot. you keep talking up these steroid head American wrestlers like they're impressive. they aren't. UFC LW division was trash and remained trash until the WEC saved it.

u saying aoki would beat that version of diego sanchez?

diego would massacre him lol. diego could go to hell and back while aoki gets hit with 1 big shot and hes out of the fight. and even diegos TDD wasnt that impressive he'd still keep it standing and just barrage aoki to death with strikes until it was over. easy fight to call

he regressed but ur a JMMA fanboy if u think aoki would beat him. dude got starched by alvarez in 30 seconds when they rematched, i was their live btw. any1 that punched decently hard beats him. his takedowns are C level at best and hes weak as hell, a guy like diego would be the more imposing guy for sure

Diego from 2005-2009 never knew how to strike anyway and was never a knockaut puncher. Name 1 knockaut he has. Alvarez is a Top 5 LW of all time and a huge name on Aoki's resume. A better name than anyone Diego has.

Also...UFC signed a completely shot version of Kawajiri many years after he was beaten by Aoki and he still won several fights and was ranked top 15.
Kawajiri was a #1 ranked LW before and is a legit win for Aoki...especially given the unfavorable style matchup
 
Back in the day he was top 5 LW so yeah he was good. Very few could hang with him on the mat.
 
Aoki wasn't only good, he was great, #2 Japanese GOAT. He was subbing guys who've never been subbed and making it look easy, his takedowns were really underrated too as were many of his wins. I recall Khabib having trouble keeping Kamal Shalorus down, Aoki not only got him down with ease but held him down before tapping him. He didn't need striking to be a success in MMA either(except for that one fight vs. Shaolin).
 
His greatest wins were over Stan Hansen, kawajiri and Eddie alvarez.
 
People forget how much of a killer JZ was when Aoki beat him and took his soul.
 
I liked that fight where he stalled kickboxing for the first round then in the 2nd round was knocked out in like 4 seconds.

You don't know what you are talking about if you say Aoki was weak and had C level takedowns. I know he looks weak. Don't let it fool you. He took down most guys he fought, and that includes great wrestlers, even an Olympic silver medalist. And you seriously underrate guys like JZ, Hansen, Shaolin. They were elite at the time.

No. You are continuing a narrative that is pulled out of someone's ass. He never butt-scooted more than a few seconds, and was stood up fast by the referee.
 
Aoki is a legend. He wasn't good but great.
