Was Antonina the biggest letdown in WMMA?

She was in line for a title shot, and took a fight instead of waiting for it like a moron. I think she got subbed. And never got back to sniffing a title shot afterwards.
To be fair, it's not like she would have had anything for Shevchenko.

That was a super embarassing fight for Calderwood. Not only did she get subbed so fast one started to think she would be tapping to a ball of yarn at a knitting circle, Moroz also managed to show everyone JoJo mostly defends strikes by blocking with her face and escaping backwards - all this in like 45 seconds or so.

And yeah, it put her squarely into the "average and from time to time somewhat entertaining" bracket which she never managed to crawl out of after that.

Wasn't that excited to begin with lol

Besides, the incest stories probably make up for the lack of octagon excitement.

Not me though, I'm not into that!
The what stories????

Oh, like that they're in a threesome with their weird coach, right? Yeah, that checks out unfortunately

No, though she was close to the top of the division at that point too. It was Jennifer Maia who subbed her when she had the title shot in the bag.
Whoa, had completely forgotten that fight! No idea JoJo had been that adequate those days. But she was only running on the KKK Lee victory at that point - were they in a situation where there was nobody else to challenge Val?

Yeah I think it was the slim pickings era where if you got a couple of decent wins you could get a shot like Murphy did.

She’s a natural FLW, and was clearly too small to fight at BW. Especially someone like Miesha Tate. Who was number 2 in the world. Even against Smith, who is 5’9”, compared to Rin who is 5’1”. She never had a chance. She had a very short reach, as well.

Those are still the only 2 fights Rin ever lost. Yet it should have been clear her muscles would not help with cardio. And if you look at Rin’s career there are loads of fights on there that weren’t even 3, 5 minute rounds. 2 round fights. 3, 3 minute rounds, etc.

I always thought they should have brought her back when they made the 125 division.

I can’t agree with her as your choice, considering I know, and remember important facts.

Honestly, her biggest issue was her husband/manager, who is a nightmare to work with. I was really in the hopes she would join the flw division… but i think she was blacklisted due to her management

Thinking rn, i believe tonya evinger was a hard upset.

She was having a decent run in invicta, even getting/defending her belt.
Then she manages to join the ufc as cyborg’s sacrificial lamb… only to never win a fight in her career again

Not sure. I think someone said it was Maryna Moroz. Is she Ukrainian?

JoJo had a loss vs. Moroz (Ukrainian Playboy model) at 115, though I don't think it was a #1 contender fight. Moroz went up against Valerie in her next fight and lost, Valerie went on to challenge Joanna for the 115 belt.

Rin Nakai and it's not even close.

Big undefeated record and then came to the UFC and delivered two absolute stinkers.

Basically the WMMA Erokhin.
Honestly thought she was a downie cosplay influencer before I saw her fight. Disappointed she wasn't afterwards.

I worked with Kaitlin Young prior to her fight against Gina. She was crisp and explosive with her muay thai in striking sessions but froze defensively any time grappling was introduced. It carried over to the fight, and she got smoked because of it.

GDR broke her lol. She went into this 8-0 (6 finishes), all hype, and came out a less than 50-50 fighter with the fire in her heart out.

Yeah, I was dead wrong about Ladd. She's good, but for UFC standards, she ended up being a little above average. She just has never had the fight IQ. I like her cardio and pace, but that can only take you so far. GDR wrecked her, even if the stoppage was a touch premature.

I don't recall any high expectations. It was more like "Oh, Val's sister, lets see how good she is" then you saw her fight once and learned that she wasn't that good.
That's how I remember it as well
