Was Antonina the biggest letdown in WMMA?

The answer is Mizuki.

No idea what the fuck happened to my girl. Was set to fight Amorim, but then Amorim fought someone else and there was never any explanation why Miz got removed from the fight.

Couple of posts on Instgram in over a year and a half but not about fighting.

Another for me is So Yul Kim.

She was a kickboxer with only 1 loss that came over to MMA.

Lost her 2nd MMA fight, which was in ONE, then went on a 7 fight streak with lots of finishes. Oddly enough for a former striker, most were sub wins.

Her last fight was Aug 2023. Then she gets signed to the UFC to fight Moura in Nov 2023, who would also have made her debut.

Kim gets removed from the fight with no explanation given and Moura fights someone else.

Kim's posted on Instagram a few times with training vids, but doesn't seem to have a fight booked.

Mizuki is injury prone, so I assume she's dealing with something there. Kim I have no clue at all about. She's a total mystery.

Kim will be waiting out one of Chatri's absurd matching periods probably.

On a not the fighters fault level, would like to add Seo Hee Ham here.

Debuting ginormously undersized vs. Calderwood, then twice robbed in Australia (fuck those fuckers), it was a pretty bad run on paper - at least she got her W on the home card. And then she went on her tour in Asia to pretty much win vs. everyone with a name in her real weight class and nearly defeating the whole Marketing Machine of One FC all on her own until the run finally ended vs. Stamp. That is what it could have been, but instead we got what we got.

But she was already set to fight in the UFC.

Unless UFC signed her without knowing about whatever contract she might have been stuck in with ONE, but that seems unlikely to me. Most of her fights were in ONE. That would have been one of the first things they would have looked at before trying to get her.

You'd think so but they've done this a few times. They signed Ante Delija to fight Gane when he was still under contract with PFL is one I can remember off the top of my head.

Mizuki Inoue. She's fought a few times in the UFC. Last fight she came back from 3 years away because of injuries and beat Hannah Goldy.

She's fought Grasso, Karolina, and Virna in the past. Lost all of those, but it was early for her, and she was competitive in all of them. I thought she beat Karolina, and possibly Grasso.

Kim you likely wouldn't know if you didn't watch ONE.

Lipski/da Silva is 31, has had 27 MMA fights, and is 12 years into her career.

She's had 13 UFC fights over the course of 6 years and is 6-7 and she has almost always lost in the exact same way (gets pressured and gives up takedown, gasses hard because she doesn't have great technique and relies on athleticism).

Most fighters typically start to peak around years 7-8 and after they don't really gain many new skills or greatly improve their game, they just refine what they have (and learn to paper over the cracks/holes better). Gaining high-level skills in areas of weakness later in your career when you didn't dedicate yourself early to building that base is incredibly difficult, no matter how athletic you are it's about time, reps, drilling, etc.

I rarely see elite male fighters getting tremendously better at striking or wrestling or grappling 10+ years into their fighting career, though there are a few (i.e. Islam at striking); I don't think I've ever seen it happen in any female fighter I can think of.

Not saying it can't happen, but I doubt she is going to be the one to break the mold based on historical precedent and her game/skills/demeanor.

But hey....

Jeez dude. You really hate Lipsky. You are mostly likely correct but damn…

My bad…Ill not say anything positive about her in the future

I actually like her, she's an absolute babe and she hit that wicked Kneebar on Luana Carolina, plus temporarily derailed Casey O'Neil.

But I just know who she is as a fighter - she got FINISHED by Antonina Shevchenko, Montana De La Rosa, and Priscila Cachoeira. She literally has 1 good win (O'Neil) and 1 decent win (JJ Aldrich), the rest of the girls she beat are all pretty bad.

I think she's hit her ceiling - she's an athletic action fighter that can put on good fights against opponents that aren't athletic grapplers. But I just don't think she is going to level up her TDD and become some contender just because she's made some slight improvements over the course of a 6+ year UFC career.

Say whatever you want about her, I just wanted to give my take to put things into perspective from another point of view.

I forgot about JoJo.

She was touted for her Muay Thai and she was tough with a good teep but beyond Invicta, not much was happening.
Always had her face bloodied.
She was in line for a title shot, and took a fight instead of waiting for it like a moron. I think she got subbed. And never got back to sniffing a title shot afterwards.
