What are the chances we've been visited by intelligent space aliens?

I think part of the problem is that when it comes to the issue of wealth inequality its often framed by some progressives in an "us vs them" manner so when you move from being one of "us" to being one of "them" your view of that issue will change.

But as Jordan Peterson points out there's a conservative argument for limiting wealth inequality that doesn't rely on that framing.

If you don't feel like watching the video he basically points out that since wealth inequality is correlated with violence if you're a conservative who values social stability then you should take care to make sure that wealth inequality doesn't get out of hand. Even if you're rich that's relevant to you since even rich people can be victims of violent crime or at the very least could and ought to aspire to live in a safe country

Video was a good listen. I agree a good amount on that rationale. I think it's difficult to accomplish realistically though because no matter what system or laws we have in place, we'd have to get those who are wealthy on board with contributing significantly higher portions than they are used to. I'm not sure that'll ever be the case, and you'll always have a larger portion of people holding on to more. Make enough to buy a house? No I want a bigger house. Make enough to buy the bigger house? Now I want a bigger boat. Etc. Humans gonna human.

But back on topic yea, I think the framing is much worse than what would actually happen. When some people on the fence hear "We are going to do everything and the 1% will pay" they get nervous thinking the middle class is going to pay more (unavoidable). I think the candidates should be smart and get ahead of that and openly state taxes would rise for most well-doers, but the benefits far outweigh the additional cost. If not it leaves people to assume the costs on their own which can have negative effects for some.

I'm Canadian, so take this FWIW being as how I'm obviously not paying American taxes though the basic principle is the same, but I think it's sad and a huge strike against a person to accept the benefit of improvements in the economy (presumably under a Democrat, according to your anecdote) only to switch allegiance for the sake of continued greed. My financials have improved very substantially in the last 8 years, and if anything, I have even more of an appreciation for the need for social programs and paying one's share of the burden.

At the same time, it would be fair to complain if the burden falls disproportionately upon those at the lower end of the economic spectrum, but that is a separate issue from complaining about taxes going up as soon as you're making more money.

Gotta be a character thing. Some people are simply selfish or greedy. You can't be the guy who grew up on food stamps, do well in life, and then say food stamps should be cut. There has to be some level of understanding there, and if not I just call it out as hypocrisy. The shift in philosophy when the position changes is what does it. I get it if someone always had their stances though.

Drinking dark rum right now.

I need you to consume red wine Mr. Sketch. You will be flavorful that way. Don't forget to remind Mr. Fawlty..... He is quite tight right now, but he will eventually gape for The Nexus....

On that topic @EL CORINTHIAN that's pretty solid that you were able to lift so much coming back from a herniation! Everyone I've talked to has been pessemistic about my ability to lift heavy again, but of course I'm determined to prove them wrong.

The going theory of my injury is disc herniation or some facet joint issue, but it wasn't worth confirming via imaging. After 28ish injury-free years it became a hassle to even tie my shoes for a few months and recovery was slow for a long time.

Good to be back. I was asked not to use chalk at the gym today and it was almost nostalgic.

He's right, five guys sucks. We have one here in Toronto. Definitely an average burger. That Chick-fil-a we got though? Oh man is that good. Spicy chicken sandwich, lemonade and waffle fries. Absolutely delicious.

I never understood five guys. I think the burgers are below average, the fries are awful and all of it is overpriced.

Whittaker adesanya might be lo key the best fight of the last several years.

The betting line is basically even.

What do you guys think?

Whittaker is my favorite current fighter not from Hawaii. And I’m worried. If I had to put money on it I’d bet Adesanya.

I agree.

Whittaker is the toughest mofo going. But I don’t see how he beats Adesanya. Both guys have unlimited gas. But compared to Adesanya, Whittaker is a straightforward fighter. I think if Whittaker is smart he will try to turn it into an against the fence grind. But I don’t think he can pull it off.

I agree.

I went to the county fair today and so soooo maany fat guys in Trump t-shirts.
