My great grandparents' families were from Hiroshima originally before they immigrated to Hawaii. I'm sure I had some distant relatives there that were taken out back then.
On my mom's side, my Polish Jew grandfather spent most of the war in a Russian prison camp, but most of his family were on the German side and didn't make it out.
It's crazy to think about how a few decisions here or there 100-80 years ago were the difference between you existing today or not.
