If it's not a big difference does it really stand to reason that it is the primary mover behind the erosion of the family unit? Certainly not in my opinion. My original assertion stands.
@Jack V Savage I contend the economics of the situation definitely promote the splintering of the family as members move hither and yon in search of a way to make a living since the family can't afford to take care of them into adulthood. In places with a strong social safety net the family is more able to stay together.
