I'll be honest, until I moved for this new job I gave really zero shits about how I looked as long as my shirt was pressed, my tie had no stains and my hair had been cut and beard trimmed within 30 days.

Now? Cause I'm living with a dude that was military I'm actually taking care of myself and don't look like a strung out office worker anymore.

When I was in the military myself (a much less stern military, I would imagine), I spent about a month in a forest, and I cannot say that keeping up appearances was a concern during that time.

The motivation to keep up appearances comes and goes, usually in relation to the influence of others around you.

It's probably not a priority to some guy who plays games all day, rarely goes outside and doesn't have any personal interactions with other people.

However, if these same people complain about loneliness, and so forth, then they might want to invest a little more into that aspect.

I always thought it odd to focus so much on appearances in the military, to a borderline obsession, when your primary task is supposed to be fighting a war. I cannot imagine that a man in a foxhole, has much time to groom their beard, among other such activities.

I can imagine that the American soldiers have time for such stuff, because of the total superiority of their military. Probably not their enemies, though.

I myself was brought up to think that if there was ever going to be a war, it was probably going to be a guerrilla confrontation with the Russians. A grooming standard, would probably not be a point of importance in such a scenario.

What is your specific issue with Greenwald? I think his work on government surveillance alone is worth saluting. I consider him a strong ally in the fight against the military industrial complex and sloppy thinking in general. He's a true non-partisan as far as I can tell, and that's a very scarce type of person these days.

Greenwald is still weaselly about even admitting that Russia was the source of the hacks. He's been totally humiliated on the issue. And, on top of that, he's pretty openly opposed to the U.S. having power so his angle is entirely different from other commentators (in that most commentators on American politics are Americans who want America to be better off).

If someone votes rationally, they are voting for a party (in general elections) rather than an individual. Policymaking is something that requires joint effort, and parties are groups committed to enacting policies.



If I believed in True Conservatism, I'd definitely be on the William Weld train. We need to get the word out to right-wingers that the only way we can have more tax cuts, more indiscriminate deregulation, more pollution, fewer brown people in our neighborhoods, and fewer interracial couples in television commercials is to vote for Weld. If he loses in the primary, we True Conservatives must, must, must write him in. The conservative movement can't survive another four years of Trump.

Lol I actually like Weld. He’s always been “progressive” on the right issues as far as I knew. He was ahead of the curve in protecting abortion rights, lgb rights, marijuana decriminalization, and energy/environment when he was Governor of MA. Of course I don’t agree with him on a lot of things like social services but he’s not gonna get the Nazi vote I don’t think.
