I would say that humans overall are drawn to leaders who seemingly "wear their heart on their sleeve", the populist, instinctive and impulsive type of leadership.

It's not something that I feel is restricted to men or women in particular, perhaps it is more of a "class" trait. A calculated and controlled leader can become a target of suspicion, especially among the so-called "lower classes" of society.

There are plenty of "female Trumps" in Western politics and they also often come off as more likeable, to atleast a portion of the population, than the Hillary Clinton types.

Perhaps a part of the appeal is the fact that the people do not feel intellectually challenged by such a leader, and feel empowered by that thought. If you think that your leader is more of an "idiot" than you are, you're less likely to think that they're pulling a scam on you.

A lot of the conspiracy theories during Bush Jr's time, kind of fell apart eventually, because the President just seemed like such a hapless idiot, incapable of really pulling off anything major, without a massive blunder. The same goes for Trump, and the conspiracies regarding him, in the end people just think he is too big of a hack to plot anything successfully.
I’ve thought a lot about populism over the last couple years (as many have) and arrived at this definition: populism is simple answers regardless of the complexity of problems.

I think that reduction is a big part of populism because of the importance of capturing the perspective of laymen and communicating to them in their own language, but I think that description is as easily applied to modern conservatism as it is to populism. Even classical conservatism is inherently reductive and based on the premise that what is is all that can (or should) be, and modern conservatism brings in several other just basically mindless arguments (taxes are bad/theft, cops-good-criminals-bad, your country is best, support our troop!, people of color commit more crime because people of color are more criminal and lack civility [duh!], poor people are lazy, etc.)

Anybody else legit worried for Ilhan Omar's safety?
The rhetoric targeted at this woman is scary.

Hmm, that sounds good and all but in reality it’s complicated.

On a slightly related note, ever notice how people who complain about liberals curtailing free speech never seem to bring up death threats made towards vocal feminists?

Oh yeah? Recipe please? One thing I love about keto is the abundance of cream cheese in the recipes. How’s it been working out for you?

Hey @Tufts, can you give Coder the cheesecake recipe?

If you like cream cheese she's got a helluva smoked fish dip too. The diet is going good so far. Not as limiting as I thought. The weight-loss is no joke. Down 20 lbs. since April 1st. Currently at the weight I'd like to maintain. Chia is a must. Not that it's great or anything, but a tallboy of Michelob Ultra has under six grams of carbs. It's helped with the beer cravings. Was gonna give up the sauce altogether but a drink once or twice a week has been the norm. Sucks how only 2-3 drinks make you feel the next day like you had 10-12. The money savings is great though. :)

This made me laugh because I’m sitting in a bar right now (on my way home from work sneaking one in) drinking ultra and a shot of don julio. That’s become the norm for me on low carb, it’s essential. I’m keto for a few weeks for a golf trip to Vegas Coming up, playing a bucket list course and chilling at the pool when we can. Can’t be rocking a spare tire :)

lol. Gotta do what we gotta do. At least the Don Julio is legitimately good.

Figured an ass-kicker like yourself would have a six-pack going on. You should bucket-list your way out here for some golfing. I'll be hitting Vegas in August for a music fest. Should be a comfortable 105 degrees by then.

I have a one pack right now dude, I got kids. But it’s not bad if I starve and eat, like, celery and water for a few weeks.

You know we’ll be invading the big island again, just a matter of time. I’ve played maybe half a dozen courses in Hawaii and it’s always like playing on a cloud of titties.

Music fest you say? Go on...

I see people taking shots at her in random threads almost every day. It's very weird.
Its not just Sherdog's incel community, the news reports and the political leaders are off the rails against her.
Pence and Fox just ran a segment that she's a threat to national security....WTF?!

Celery and water are practically the same thing.

Man, who wouldn't wanna play on a cloud of titties? I'd consider taking up golf for that.
