Everybody can’t have a mansion with a pool in the backyard. So what? That has nothing to do with whether or not the market will suddenly no longer require low wage workers. It's a competition. No matter how motivated people are somebody has to bring up the rear. The economy relies on having people to fill those roles.
Given that we are pretty much all renters with no way to opt out of the market, we probably owe each other some minimum standard of living.
Instead of crying about rich people and how evil they are, try to be like them.
Dumbing the system down won’t work, we have to make ourselves better. Make ourselves more marketable. Responsible people should look at government assistance as not an option or a last resort, not just a way to get a check.
Yes, people should be embarrassed to be on government assistance. It shouldn’t be easy or readily available. Yes, people on welfare should be subject to whatever type of testing the government sees fit. Government assistance should be temporary and it should only deliver the minimum amount of support to survive. It was never meant to be a lifestyle.
Success in this country isn’t a guarantee, but the opportunity is there.
And before all the yappers jump in with the “that same opportunity is not there for everyone!” I’ve seen all walks of life do well. Did they all start with the same conditions or tools? No, but anyone who wants to succeed can. Some may have to work harder or have more obstacles, but that’s just life.
