Of course, I'd rather be self sufficient. I am self sufficient and I don't have any plans to not be, whether I live in a country with a robust social safety net, or not.
Just imagine if everyone had that mentality?

Then go live in a cave and shit in a hole in the ground with the other geniuses while the rest of us pool our resources toward common interests like not having rat shit and strychnine in our food, not drinking polychlorinated biphenyls by the gallon, having a fully literate and basically educated society, not dying of terrible and easily treatable diseases, etc.
I would literally rather live in a cave then to live in a country that depends on the government for their wellbeing.

I’m all for pooling resources, just not government controlled pooling of those resources. Consolidate resources on a private level and Im all in.

Did a pretty good job on fixing some major environmental problems.

Emissions of air pollutants have dropped massively since the govt started aggressively regulating them via the Clean Air Act.

Sulfur Dioxide emissions in the US went from 31 million tons in 1970 to 2.71 million tons in 2016.

I just had Cap's power and water shut off, and blocked the road to his house. I doubt he'll object.

Do you think the low wage jobs and unemployment would cease to exist?
Yes, it would certainly help. As long as people can make a living off of the government, they will. Making it readily available, will keep people on it.

Its just like when we set up medic stations at a major ball game. People see us there so they come to us with frivolous things, like wanting a bandaid, checking their blood pressure, or check them out because they just aren’t feeling well.

If we weren’t there, they would suck it up and wait till they got home to get that bandaid or they would get a cup of water or just man up and either watch the game or go home.

If it’s right there in front of them, they take advantage of it, even if it isn’t an emergency or necessity.

I’d make sure that didn’t happen.
You gotta admit that's a weird ass violent response to the point that government is very successful at giving us access to things everybody needs. I make allowances for your being a Confederate, but even then, you have to like government on some level.

Government has functions like national defense, taxes to operate, even temporary and restricted welfare. But their level of involvement in our lives is out of hand.

I think you mean OUR level of involvement in EACH OTHERS' lives. I think a lot of these fundamentally bad ideas about government's role are based on the false emotional premise that America is not a representative Democracy. Once people realize that the government is us, it improves their thinking.

Government shouldn’t dictate morals, it shouldn’t shoulder the responsibility for our happiness, it shouldn’t dictate speech, or try to disarm us. Government is in place to set up structure and basic laws and guidelines.

And yes, I’m a strong supporter of states having individual rights that are more suitable for its inhabitants.

The federal government was never supposed to have the power it has.

We as a people are lazy and too tied up in our own individual lives to get involved in what the government is doing to us.

They keep us fighting amongst ourselves on purpose. We are out here cutting up and the politicians just sit back and laugh at us.

Politicians aren’t stupid, we are.

The government must dictate all sorts of morals and moral rights like the existence of private property, age of consent/eligibility for many things, every part of the criminal code, etc. Our morals are embedded in our laws and only a government can enforce laws.

You can argue about which level of government should handle which thing but to a significant degree we're all in it together.

And this is why persons like you are just a lost cause to try to reason with. You'd doom the planet to eventual ecological disaster and millions to poverty and suffering because of some reductive normative notion of being a self-sufficient manly man and your delusion that preservation of its illusory ideals is more important than pragmatic maintenance and prolongation of society, mutually beneficial allocation of resources , improved livelihoods of infinite persons, and attainment of actual sustainable and peaceful existence. And the fact that this ludicrous worldview is pretty much only found in white Americans speaks greatly to its tone deafness, as most any person with actual experience with that type of right-anarchist , fend-for-yourself faux-meritocracy realizes how stupid and stupidly self-delusional it is.

Your inability to understand that other people who are more involved than you are also a lot more intelligent and knowledgeable than you is also a pretty glaring blind spot.

And lol at Social Secutity being run efficiently

Here in CANada the people in their late twenties of my age group all talk openly about our pensions that will never exist. CPP (Canadian Pension Plan) is a ponzi scheme for boomers. Not sure how bad it is for you guys down south.

Shouldn't you of all people slightly like his anarchistic and nihilistic views?

Criminal acts are basic structural elements.

And I agree that levels of government are arguable.

We should be in it together, but as it stands, politicians are in it for themselves and we have put ourselves in this position by allowing them to gain the power that they have.

That has nothing to do with whether or not the market will suddenly no longer require low wage workers. It's a competition. No matter how motivated people are somebody has to bring up the rear. The economy relies on having people to fill those roles.

Given that we are pretty much all renters with no way to opt out of the market, we probably owe each other some minimum standard of living.

I’m not an anarchist, I believe government has its function, it has just gotten out of hand. Especially on the federal level.

I didn't mean to imply that, I was just going off his usual out of reality based arguments. Of course you aren't. I'm just confused why someone like him would be against anarchism since he is a nihilist himself. And these guys can preach about government dictating morals, which we can agree on for age of consent etc. The issue is these same lefty types want men in girls bathrooms and all kinds of other detestable things as well. They just hide it in their language.
