A 3-year-old boy in Texas died on Saturday after finding a loaded gun that fell out of a family member's pocket and accidentally shooting himself in the chest, authorities said. Authorities said family members had gathered for the child's birthday party and were playing cards when they heard a gunshot and discovered the child.

I think this is where we can reach common ground with the 2nd Amendment crowd. You can have all the guns you want, but you do something negligent like this, and you forfeit that right. The state will have demonstrated a compelling interest (you killed a kid) to thereby infringe on your 2nd Amendment right. You get the gun, but you are responsible for that gun.

That's a fair compromise right?

Not only do you lose the gun, there is serious jail time for the death of the child due to the negligence involved. Why is a gun at a 3 year olds birthday party?
