Both are great.

The original was on TV recently. I put it on when they were pole vaulting the boulders and my wife asked what we were watching. I gave her the synopsis and she immediately rolled her eyes.
I don't blame her. As someone who loves monster movies and used to watch tons of them most are trash. But Tremors is legit, stands head and shoulders above most films in the genre.

First off the back story is just great. Most monster movies rely on lab experiment gone wrong or accidental mutation due to pollution or some other generic backstory. In Tremors the Graboid(btw what a great name) is a Pre-Cambrian life form which elegantly explains why its so unique without going into detail.

More importantly the central feature of the Graboid, that it burrows underground and attacks from beneath, gives the characters in the film a simple yet persistent and difficult problem to deal with that they then have to constantly work around. Unlike characters in many other monster movies they're not retards running around and getting picked off one by one, they're actually pretty clever with the shit they come up with to get away because they have to be. Basically its one long game of "the floor is lava" which is actually pretty fun to watch.

And of course the film balanced the humor with the horror really well. Just really solid monster movie all around, wish we had more like it. And unlike other monster movies it also has a decent sequel. Maybe not as good as the first one but still solid. The shriekers present a different problem; instead of a few big Graboids that burrow underground and attack from underneath the characters have to deal with a bunch of little bipedal monsters that detect infrared so they have to come up with a different way of dealing with them. Never saw the third one but I wouldn't have high hopes that they could pull off three in a row.

The fucking militia/road guard chodes are fucking enraging. People trying to flee from forest fires and these dickbags are out there standing in the road with guns trying to scare off "BLM looters". You know what else BLM stands for? Bureau of Land Management. For fuck sake.
I noticed that funny coincidence some months ago but I never thought it would have consequences like this.

he knows his audience.

these are the same group of losers that followed Jordan Peterson around on a leash.

Crazy how much influence he's gained since his .net days.

Now I know women and kids who actually listen to his podcast.

I like you pointing out the floor is lava context as I originally saw this as an adolescent and that rings true.

3rd movie (or maybe the 4th, I only remember watching snippets of whichever it was) introduces flying monsters. The little bipedal monsters have explosive (like, literally) farts that propel them into the sky.

Tremors these days is a B movie franchise with something a cult following. The guy who played the gun nut in the first is the leading man in most of the entries.

The more I hear from rogan the more I dislike him. I only like when he talks to people about MMA and when Eddie talks about BJJ. other than that I don’t care what he has to say about anything.

I never saw that one. I saw 1,2,4 and some episodes of the series. I stand by 1 as a legit movie, 2 I might have some nostalgia for but by monster movie standards its still decent. The rest are probably trash.

The gun nut dude was a beast.

The big explosion in the 2nd movie was hilarious

Greatest summary of Rogan ever poster in this forum:

The key thing about Joe Rogan is that he is a very, very stupid man with the ego and drive of a renaissance polymath. There is absolutely nothing Rogan loves more than the pursuit and application of knowledge, it's just he's as dumb as a box of rocks so it gets boiled down to yelling and telling people that, like, a panther would fuuuuuuck Bruce Lee up, dude. So you gotta cut the dude some slack when an actual grownup does an actual thing wrong and holy shit JOE ROGAN SPOTTED IT! GUYS! A MISTAKE!

I never thought much of him either way. I only tune in if there is a guest of interest (e.g. related to science, history, politics and the rare freak show for shits and giggles).

His strengths are his willingness to host interesting guests on a wide range of issues. Other than that I don't care too much for his opinion. His best podcasts are where he doesn't really conversate and instead allows the guest to speak freely.

Hard to tell what is coming from a place of genuine criticism vs just the partisan hatred he gets for simply being an open platform for narrative breaking guests.

My favorite part in that movie is when he shoots one of the shriekers with some ridiculous gun and it ends up over-penetrating so far that it takes out the engine of the one car they were going to escape with.

Yeah I remember that, great description. I don't know if Rogan is that dumb but he is not as smart as he thinks he is which leads him to coming off as more stupid than he really is.

I think it's pretty spot on and it kind of sparked my memory on my comment defending Rogan.

I think I said he knew when he was out of his depth and to defer to the experts.

And this also applies to comics. He knows when he's outgunned and immediately submits to guys like Burr and Stanhope.

Or at least that's true when it comes to his "friends".
