If I were Japanese I'd still probably give credence to my wife's opinion because she's a smart cookie. The issue is perception is reality no matter the intent of the military leadership. The average person in Japan wants no part of any form of militarism. They just want to be left alone and to leave everyone else alone and have fun and make cute things and eat and drink and be happy. They know the rest of the world still has the occasional bit of hard feelings for them and they want nothing more than to put to bed any fears it could possibly happen again. Even with a military sucking who knows what out of their already-troubled economy, they would still need help from the US to fend off the likes of China, and the whole time, the average person would just be terrified of getting nuked again day after day. So where do they gain?

Ha! Actually I agree on that one too but Terminator 2 is at least comparable in quality to the first one whereas as Trainspotting 2 is not nearly as good as preceding film.

I like how the first one is more of a horror movie than an action movie. Kind of mirrors the difference between Alien and Aliens with the first being a horror movie and the second a Cameron action flick.

Its not nearly as good as the first film. However, if you really liked the first one I would recommend watching it. The cast reprise their roles and mostly bring a lot of the energy they had the first time around, its just the script could be better. Overall an average film with Danny Boyle's flair that also has a few strong scenes in it with decent performances overall by the cast.

Let me put it like this; first one is a 10/10 film for me while the second one is 6/10. Big gulf but still the second one is passable and worth it for the few parts it does right. Just feels like it doesn't really builds into anything great dspite some really good elements.

I know that but that's a good thing. We need allies in the region to check China's power and Japan is an excellent contender for that kind of role. It makes sense that Abe would support Trump given Trump's anti-China stance so from his perspective it seems rational.

Like it or not China is asserting itself in the region and in the globe and they definitely still have hard feelings towards the Japanese. As is Japan is already one of the world's strongest military powers, they just need to amend the constitution to give themselves more legal room to do anything other than self defense which will be necessary against China.

That's the problem. The Japanese think they don't have to play geopolitics the way other major nations do because the US basically serves as their military.

The Japanese people sound like they live in lala land. Its not about wanting to build your military, its about accepting the fact that China wants to eat your lunch so you need to build your military.
