My opinion is that sadly, like any cant for insiders such as cockney rhyming slang, gangsta (for lack of a better term given my lack of knowledge of that area of discussion), Joual--the list is very long--once it gets exposed and coopted by the public at large, it's time to abandon it and find a new one; that has knock-on effects like making rap/hip hop more superficial and commercial and less appealing to early participants.I shouldn't be so judgemental as there's plenty of music I listen to that people around here would question but I can't get over how rap, at least the well known guys, went from dudes like Ice Cube, Ice T, and Snoop who had legit gang ties and seen some shit to... guys that grew up upper middle class or middle class rapping about "the streets".....
Or a rapist full of plastic dumpster fire human like Cardi B.
Isn't that partially because other than say the old school guys like Slayer or Pantera pre shooting and like Rammstein if you include them in metal... are extremely niche and hard to get people into?
Case in point, roommate is a person that views Tool as the greatest thing to ever exist. I keep trying to listen and I just can't get into their stuff. I always walk away feeling like I'm way too sober to listen to their stuff.
Just my two cents.
