The "no snitching" culture is shitty, even on forums. On a side note, it's hilarious how many times throughout the years I have seen anti-black posters complain about the "no snitching" ethic while holding that it's wrong to "snitch" here.

As a poster, there is an overriding disincentive to reporting posts. Mods (not all of them or even a majority of them, obviously) share information with regular posters about which posters report people, and this information gets around in PMs. If it ever becomes public, the person who consistently reports posts that break the rules is harassed endlessly.

I report a post maybe once a year on average (less counting my entire time here), most recently for somebody who has been spreading lies about me for years. What stops me from reporting more posts is not some personal no snitching ethic, but because 1) I enjoy fucking with them right back, which means that it would be unethical to report them, 2) Apathy, but also 3) Because I don't want to be on "the list" because it would result in me being harassed, which just isn't something I feel like dealing with.

If there was no stigma, I would probably report several posts a month in here, because it would be good for the forum. It would be very easy to report 50 posts a year without ever making a report that is borderline or inappropriate. There is a diffusion of responsibility in a no-snitching culture which polarizes people into "snitches" and "cool." The poster who chooses to use the report feature as intended will end up with a number of reports that, if made public, would cause them harassment.
I don't know man, that hasn't been my experience here at all.

So political correctness has no impact on how mods do their work?
Well maybe you'll become a mod some day and find out

"I'm not rustled, you're rustled!"
"No, you're rustled! YOU'RE rustled!"

I get along with Home for the most part but I frankly thought he should have been on at least a single yellow for the like 4 month period where he was obsessed with the hot dog gif.

And @Rational Poster should be required to drop a dime into my bank account every time he uses that Emilia Clarke gif as it has made me want to see her killed in GoT even more than I already did.

Part of it is though I like the Red Sox (mostly cause I hate the Skankees) the Mariners, every time we make a trade with them we've been fucking burned except for getting Buhner in the early 90s.

@Lead theres only one way to clear this up, post the regulars names and how many times they have reported someone, then at least all the conspiracy bollocks will stop...

We showed reports by account but giving number of reports made by a poster is a bad idea. Also, the number wouldn't be as useful because you wouldn't know how many led to infractions. Just assume that the forum has posters who report things at times that either are or aren't against the rules.

I moved to Seattle recently (Cap Hill). If you're ever in my neck of the woods, let's get a beer or 7

K1's posts were perfectly topical and valid. Them getting banned was a perfect example of the forced both sidesism and false equivalence of the right/left.

I totally missed that thread because I ignore the TS. But I checked it out. For the first time, ignored someone with zero posts, just based on the fact that the guy has no posts but is "liking" some really ugly shit.

I don't know who you're talking about. But the delusional victim complex of American conservatives is on full display the last few pages. If conservatives here get more infractions, it's because they're as a group entirely disinterested in productive discourse, making arguments in good faith, and acknowledging being wrong. They post only to argue for their side mindlessly.

At least when there's a derail people aren't individually reporting every off topic post anymore.
That was a real PITA. That's also when the WR report numbers were the highest I've seen as mod.
