Not sure why but I constantly see people try to talk about what percentile they are in for intelligence on the internet (not just sherdog) but never see this even once in real life. Is this a meme about internet culture cause it really should be for how frequently it comes up.
You don't have to deal with people rolling their eyes at you when you start speaking like a cringey sperg on the internet.

I think online it's easier to make the claim you are intelligent. In real life, just from looking someone in the eyes and hearing them speak for 5 seconds you can tell if they are intelligent or not.

I forget, but a few years ago there was some popular "intellitest" people would take online & douches would actually include it in their email sigs if they got high scores.

talk about cringe, not to mention unprofessional

One thing I’ve seen multiple times is IQ scores from something like elementary school. The one person that always said it (different site, worse crowd imo) was a complete bum too. Constantly unemployed and would bring it up again and again like that somehow made him amazing.

Maybe. It’s just weird reoccurring things that show up online compared to real life. Trolling always is an expected difference but stuff like this is just odd.

Like on here, you’ve got people claiming to be smart despite still being in community college in their 40s.

it's starting to come together, why 7th grade accomplishments matter

I legit doubt he got upper 70% on the LSAT. I took an entire summer to study it (admittedly not as hard as I could and by myself) and I still only scored middle of the pack.

Sounds like a 17th percentile would say

Amerikuracana at least gets credit for rustling someone so bad that they doxxed themselves on a karate forum.

Well we know he's a J.D. <Dany07>

@Prokofievian, regarding the horizon problem, as I understand it (and please correct me if I'm wrong), the main issue appears to be that you don't know the ideal minimum you have to push back the horizon in any given instance without pushing it all the way to find out. I was just wondering whether this could be minimized by doing just that over and over to produce a statistical measure of how far you should need to go before diminishing returns set in. Of course, it could just as easily be an insurmountable problem in AI and that would be really interesting.

Edit: I gather this is what you were referring to in the chess thread,

I realize it was only the label I didn't recall seeing before.

He claims that? Good God.

Law school is still on the table for me but I can't imagine any actual attorney, based on the ones I work with and know personally, being like him.

it’s not so much whether they are or not but why they feel the need to try to let people know. Maybe it’s for the reason that they aren’t just being seen directly in person where it’s easier to tell. I just know if someone did that IRL, people would look at them funny. The closest I’ve heard it to real life is just someone stating their grades (I have a straight A student, I got ___ on my SAT/ ACT, I had _ GPA in college) but that’s a little detached from I’m objectively a genius and took a test about it.

I think he did get 70th percentile and did get his JD. Here's why: it's just the most him thing to do to brag about a 157 (lmao). And he bragged about being in what might be the single worst law school in the entire country, that has an english language proficiency test for entry (the one he refers to in that post). Again, it's the most him thing to do.

I scored a 149........ and on one of the logic section I missed like 10 questions as in I didn't answer them.

Does this mean I am a genius too?

I also think it gives people false bravado because they are behind the computer screen. I've been tall and athletic legit my entire life, and rarely have had people speaking to me out of tone. Even when I've been in the wrong I can only think of like one instance I was disrespected upfront. Not saying everyone is scared of me or whatever, but people are cautious when you appear physically capable or more physically capable than them. Online however, everyone is a tough guy that can curse at you and try to insult you. Call you all types of whatevers. It's night and day.
