I'm the same way (I'm always thirsty and can't resist sweet beverages, particularly carbonated ones)
and have done that many times.

Energy drinks don't affect me that much, but last year I got a cold brewed ice coffee one night for the next morning, couldn't help myself and drank it, and then was up all night palpitating.
