Wanderlei Silva gets lifetime ban

Can they even fine him? He wasn't licensed and never will be again

Sherdog trolls gonna run wild. Guess he did it to himself. Nsac making asses of themselves, goodell style

Do they even have the ability to fine him? unlike Chael he's not actually under licence is he and unlikely to ever be so again.

NSAC said that in many instances fighters don't even officially have their license until a few days before the fight. It wouldn't be feasible if they didn't have jurisdiction because fighters would always refuse tests up until a few days before the fight when they receive their license.

He's not gonna pay shit, and he's already retired either way
gg NSAC

No precedence for this. Should have warned fighters that from now on if you refuse a test you will be banned for life. Should have banned Wand 2 years like Chael. They are setting an example with Wanderlei

Its less an "example" and more cheap PR if you ask me, lengthy bans for fighters who are retired anyway and hope everyone forgets they oked Vitor getting a title shot coming directly off a failed test.

If a current big UFC draw at the peak of his career is in a similar situation to either you can get your life we won't see bans like this.

damn that's harsh, doesn't matter, wand has so many other options aside from fighting... he can be a model, motivational speaker, hedge fund manager.....hmmmm

Kind of disappointed. A lifetime ban is no punishment at all for a retired fighter.
Expected them to throw the book at him for running from the test.

But at least it sends a message to the younger roidheads out there who aren't ready for retirement:
"Dodge a test and your career is over."

I think they just did this because he's retired now, it's not gonna bother him, trying to make a pointless example. Had he not retired I bet he gets around 2 years

You think they did this cause he retired? Most people see it as he retired cause he knew this was going to happen. I find it a little funny he randomly decides to retire all of a sudden two days before this.

Bahahaha. Well deserved.

Hopefully his `I stand with Wand` bullshit campaign has been exposed for what it was: a distraction. Preemptive damage control. But the damage has been done. Ducks Chael after talking shit, ducks drug testing and comes up with ludicrous excuses, and now is banned for life.

I love how one of his first supporters in his `campaign` was fucking Babalu, a guy banned from the UFC for holding on to a choke when his opponent was already unconscious. Encapsulates the absurdity of the whole thing, really.

Problem is if they don't ban them those guys come back like nothing ever happened. It's not uncommon for guys to only fight once in a year, so a ban of only 12 months is really nothing.

Just like what happened with Overeem right
The only reason they gave him an "indefinite" is because he has no plans of fighting in the indefinite future

That is really disgraceful, a bunch of suit and ties leaving a black spot, on one of the most important figures of the sport.
While they were snorting coke and banging high end prostitutes, the man was giving his blood and sacrificing his health for a sport that wouldn't be shit without people like him.
Its a travesty.

He wasn`t sacrificing shit. He was getting paid, and pretty handsomely.

In Japan, if a company wants to fire you, you get the opportunity to resign yourself (it's a honor-thing in japan). They will put your desk at the corner of the office to signal the employee that he is about to be fired. The employee then resigns.
