Tech VR Megathread

After today everyone is now.

It's because people want him to fail he willing to take risks to make his dreams a reality. Magic Leap is facing the same problems because they are both trying to begin the work on bleeding edge technology. He unlike Magic Leap are willing to spend a lot of money to make his dreams a reality. Companies will be less likely to take risks when they seen how Mark is dragged through the broken glass. The quest pro continues to reduce weight improve the optics and improve the comfort wearing it. They face issues such as cost of the quest pro given that it seems that 1000 or less seems to be the sweet spot for early adopters. People love to cheerlead failure from what I gather especially in this post Elon Musk world that if he does not like it then it needs to fail. But he once said social media does not create jobs or take on great challenges such as landing on the moon but here we are he just bought Twitter go figure.

If Mark spent his billions of dollars paying VALVe or the equivalent to make AAA games they'd be doing much better. I don't give a shit for Metaverse and just want games.

I understand but I think the point is about social aspect more then pure gaming and also competition from Chinese companies like Tictok owner Bytedance. A lot of people buying the Quest 2 are largely using it for social aspects and some specific gaming. The Quest Pro will reach a specific group of people at first developers, industrial applications, high end commercial racing and flying training, military augmented reality tool development and some higher end gamers. It's really not to be a replacement for the previous headsets but more targeted areas. Really I believe this is the reason why Apple did not release their headset because Facebook put so much time and money into the development they realized a 3,000 dollar VR only headset will not achieve wide developer support.

Registration for the new PlayStation VR started today for 22nd of February relase

The future coming but still some issues to produce reality. But this guy is horrible in his presentation ha ha.

Sadly, VR makes me feel really ill after about 20 minutes

Honestly it does not have that affect on me in fact most of the time where I am supposed to feel disorientated like standing in space over Saturn not really not bothered by it. The only thing that bugs me even with a decently high end headset still feel like I am looking through a binocular. Need to put down some money on a 21o degree field of view VR headset.

Until you've used VR it's really difficult to judge it, plus how can pencil necked geeks hold their huge heads up with one of these things on?

Also, if Facebook wasn't a prerequisite I'd likely get one of the Oculus'. I know there's other VR sets available.

Maybe the novelty wears off quick but it's a really cool experience initially and I can see how it's the logical next step in gaming.

Facebook is no longer a requirement for the Oculus/Meta headsets, though you still need an account with Meta.

IMO there's enough good VR content to pay for a (formerly cheap) Oculus headset and go with that, but I can't justify spending more on a top tier set when there's not enough AAA content for them.

I own a HTC Vive Pro 2 and I am not really a pencil neck geek at 5'11" 260 lbs "Need to lose some weight" with a 450 squat and a 475 deadlift as well as a 345 bench to my name. As far as Ouest 2 I own one I would not really recommend it till they finalize their software in some form they keep updating it all the time pisses me off. I become a fan of the hp reverb g2 little if any issues other then it is a wired headset but now costs less then the Quest 2 and is comparable to my much much more expensive HTC Vive Pro 2. I actually now own two of them the only real issues is vertical field of view is less then I expected. I don't work for HP just pointing out the value.

I was thinking of trying to get myself a useed HTV Vive Pro 2 from ebay since I already had the base stations from 2 years ago and I recently ordered the Valve nuckles. But if what you said is true that there isn't much of a difference between the HP Reverb(which I have) and the HTC Vive Pro 2, I might hold off on it. My main wishlist was the Pimax 12k but they still haven't really given it an official release date. The last I heard was supposedly in the 4th quarter oif this year but it has almost ended. The Pico 4 looks quite enticing while waiting for the Pimax release

I don't believe I am saying this you may want to wait till Apple headset next year?

"
Apple Inc. is ramping up work on a mixed-reality headset, its first major new product category since the Apple Watch, and has renamed the accompanying software in the latest sign of an approaching debut.

The company plans to introduce the headset as early as next year, along with a dedicated operating system and app store for third-party software, according to people with knowledge of the matter. Internally, the company recently changed the name of the operating system to “xrOS” from “realityOS,” said the people, who asked not to be identified because the project is still under wraps. "

"
XR" is meant to stand for extended reality, which pertains to both augmented and virtual reality. Rumors indicate that the headset Apple is working on will be "mixed reality" like the Microsoft HoloLens, supporting both augmented and virtual reality capabilities. Augmented reality augments what the user is seeing in the real world, while virtual reality is an entirely digital experience.

As has been previously rumored, the headset will have new versions of existing apps like Maps and Messages, which have been redesigned for an AR/VR experience. Apple is also creating a software development kit so third-party apps can be created for the headset.

Apple internally referred to the headset's operating system as "rOS" during the development process, but Bloomberg suggests that xrOS is a less generic name that will allow the headset to stand out more."

I have to see how well Apple would use MS software and if they offer high enough resolution to rival Pimax and Varjo with body and face tracking support. Also it would be a waste to not use my existing valve base stations, vive trackers and knuckles I already have in place. At least I know I can just get the Pimax headset itself without buying any new controllers or base stations.

I hear the new Apple XR headset release has been pushed back till the end of 2023 unfortunately. Would have bought it even at 2700 or whatever the rumored price was going to be. It is a bit concerning that Apple keeps switching the release date and reported issues with their VR OS. Primax Crystal looking promising though I would rather have the Meta Quest Pro at that price point given it is very heavy for an advance stand alone headset.

I just put a reserve for the Pimax Crystal on their website. The approximate release date appears to be between Xmas and January. The apple Vr headset appears like its mainly designed as a stand alone with a lot of work related and social media application. Also it's not going to be cheap running close to 3k
