Viral Image Illustrates Just How Cruel SeaWorld Is

Sea world isn't a research center for the benefit of Sea Animals. Its a fucking circus for profit. If the whales don't perform, they are useless to the park. For example, in that documentary when they took that young whale from its mother, so the mother could focus on doing backflips.

And how they presented it you wouldn't know one was seperated after 3 years for being disruptive to the pod, and the other after 13 for being the daughter of the matriarch and causing issues as well.

Sea world has its problems but this is just a dumb.. Zomg there is more space for thousands of cars than there is for a couple off whales. Yes the whale pens are small, But trying to compare the two is stupid.

The comparison is to give a sense of the size of their space.

Yes, so the park should be shut down, and the young whale and mother be released into the ocean to die.

Never seen them in person, have you? I have. No one would look at them and think 'Those tanks are small' unless they have preconceived political motives.

So, exactly what would the political motives be, if not to shut down the park? Haven't seen a single protester say they should build bigger tanks.

Thats exactly the point of the picture. You look at one of those tanks in person, or close up, and think, well thats a pretty big tank, mostly because its big compared to you. But when you zoom out and get a sense of the scale of the pool compared to the distance a whale would swim around in a normal day, you realize how tiny it is.

I could also list how everyone in the film either hasnt worked there for 20years, or never worked with Orcas, or didnt know the trainer that died, as referenced by their testamony to OSHA, but ya know...facts.

For example Jett was never a lead trainer and hasnt worked there for 17 years, Gomersall never worked with Orcas and mainly worked with dolphins and sea lions, Kim never did any waterwork with Orcas and was primarily a beluga and dolphin trainer...we could go on about how Ms. Berg hasnt worked at seaworld in 20 years, and admitted in to the court that her speaking might not be as credible (with her whooping 1 year experience at the stadium) as a zoologist.

You do realize that they dont "catch" the whales right? They are abandon or sick animals that would die left on there own. They cant be reintroduced, you know that right?

So Sea World just roams the sea for Orcas, but before capturing an Orca, it makes sure if its sick or abandoned lol. Sea World would be out of business if this was its approach.

The bottom line is Sea World is in the Orca Trade business. It is involved in breaking up tight knit Orca families. These whales exhibit despair when separated from their families. This is the issue, and the reason Sea World should be shut down.

Several of the whales at SeaWorld were captured in the waters off Iceland, including Tilikum, the infamous whale who was involved in the deaths of three people. He was captured in Berufj

Interesting. So why did Seaworld refuse to make any statements at all regarding the movie? They were asked to speak their case and they chose to not say anything at all. I would not doubt the film is biased and doesn't paint the exact truth, but that silence says just as much to me.

Sea World loves whales.

does anyone really doubt that the vast majority of people that work with the whales truly love the animals? I'd say 95% of the structure is made up of true blue animal lovers...unfortunately the decision makers, as is the case in every corporate entity, are quarantined off from the rest of the business and see everything for the most part in statistics.

And the size of parking lot is tiny when compared to the size of your mom.

What's your point?

The exact same thing can be done with zoos, comparing any one single animal attraction to the size of the parking lot. And those attractions are so tiny as compared to Africa. We should let all the zoo animals throughout the world just set free all of their animals.

Seaworld hasnt captured a whale since 1979, 30+ years ago, the thing you reference is from the early 80s as well.

Right, so disregard that the other 2 whales you said where separated basically at birth (again one 3 years and one 13 years) where causing issues in the pod and distressing other pod members, and the removal created a better pod, as well as helped both the calves form strong bonds in other pods.

But we can shut down seaworld and not care about the millions of dollars they spend rescuing animals, or ya know the thousands of animals they currently have that either can't be reintroduced, or are not able to at this time. So let them all die then, no use helping them, because nature.

They breed their program and rehabilitate those that are brought to them.

They doc also asserts that they starve the animals, well then how did Tilikum gain 5000lbs in captivity, ya know since he weighed 7000 coming in and was at 12000 currently.

And how they presented it you wouldn't know one was seperated after 3 years for being disruptive to the pod, and the other after 13 for being the daughter of the matriarch and causing issues as well.

So what if the whales were causing issues lol. "Disruptive to the pod", and "causing issues" are just code words for "bad for our profits". Of course they are disruptive. They don't want to be there. So they are supposed to be docile or else they will get separated from their loved ones?

Again, I am not AGAINST stopping the shows, but shutting down seaworld is a very emotional and unintelligent response to one of the bigger contributors to marine biology research, and marine animal rehabilitation.

Bad for profits? Seaworld spends millions of dollars to rehab, research and help marine biology.

Right, so take what marine biologists say, over trainers with no degree in either marine biology or zoology or very, very limited hands on time 10-20 years ago.

I think the film said that the calves never leave their mothers side or something in the movie? Well, then how do you we have genetic diversity, multiple pods, ya know...facts again.

(Sigh) Seaworld is a business. The shows are the main attraction.

What do you think is going to the the park, the biology research, and marine animal rehabilitation, if they stop the shows?

This thread is making me hungry for whale meat.

Mainly in reference to the orca shows. Well they have other shows, they have the backstage tours you can do, they have the tide pools, they have the aquariums, the rides, the mini zoo, the education center, dolphin and beluga experience, the arctic exhibit, etc.

Of course the Orca shows are the center piece but they also have a ton of other attractions at the park.

All of this is true, however, the orca shows are the main attraction.

Imagine going to a UFC card without a 'main event.' The premilinary card is as it has been, then a four-fight main card of good fights, some well known names. But no 'Iiiiittttttssss TTIIIMMMEEEE!' with a hugely anticipated title fight.

It would result in a huge blow to the event's ticket sales and PPV buys. It's the exact same situation with Seaworld.

And, saying the orc shows should be shut down is accepting the primise of their arguement that performing for crowds are somehow hurting the orcas. Don't fall for it.
