Do your pets rule your lives?

I'm supposed to be there now.

Poor cat en route this afternoon started throwing up half an hour into the journey and frothing at the mouth. Which, I've seen them throw up before but never that. Took a view after making a stop and trying to calm them both down. They're both fine. I didn't give them the suppressants because the other one went even more spastic with them than in the hour long test runs before the 3.5 hour journey today.

I had the option to cancel the condo before March 26th and was convinced that if we don't go away now we won't ever go away...and now we're in the will never go away unless we go separately.

No, they can't go to a cattery, or someone's house, and no one can cat sit because they will bolt out of the door never to be seen again.

I don't ever care about birthdays but husband insisted it was a pretty big deal. What morons we wee.

I'm in the same boat with a retarded dog

He's only 2 so I'm in for the long haul

At least he travels well, we can chuck him in the car and head up the coast, which we're doing again tomorrow. He's a right little cunt with other people as well, so can't leave him with anyone

I have to assume there is a reason we got him specifically, just have to figure it out

Not so easy with cats in guessing

No. I bought a gigantic thing which takes up 2/3 of a big back seat, even bought booster blocks so they could see out the windows because they were panicking about no visual. Put my yesterday's PJs, husband's socks, their blankets in as always but it went pear shaped on the day it wasn't supposed to.

We pulled over and just tried to calm them down, turn around and came home.

Ah that sucks a lot. I guess you live so remote you can't get a catsitter in?

I honestly wouldn't trust anyone enough to do it. I don't even open the patio doors on my own unless they're locked in another room. We have too many coyotes and terrible drivers for them to be let out.

Absolutely agree keep them inside and safe unless you have a catio. Only other suggestion would be GPS trackers if they wear collars just in case.

It's put things into perspective. We have tickets for Oasis and then NIN in LA in September which I'm nearly cancelling after today. It smarts that I wanted to avoid losing the $1000 because I just thought it might be me being a selfish person. Now they've been traumatised.

Don't cancel just yet. Cats are way more resilient than you give them credit for, they will be OK.

That was the mantra I was hoping for today. I don't ever want to see any animal like that again. And the other one who normally creates merry hell in the cat crate started licking her after because she was so non moving...not dead just exhausted.

it's shit init, took me a long time to get around the fact I won't be traveling again for some time, bit of resentment in there.
I'm used to heading into Europe 3 or 4 times a year, but it's whatever, life is life, adapt, adjust, advance or whatever words get you through it

we make choices and we don't quit on them because it's the easy option

I am so lucky. I have an Uncle that lives two blocks away. When we go on vacation or away for the weekend, he stays here and watches the dog (used to have 2). They love him and he loves them. He looks at it like a treat and so do they lol. I feel your pain though, but we love our pets.

I know the feeling, I get that way with my dogs. I don't worry about my cats much because they can basically take care of themselves. I once had a neighbor look me straight in the face and let one of the cats out, like she was helping.

I boarded my dogs for my wedding and hated it. The female is a psycho and the male was huge. I don't think I'll do it again, and now we have chickens so traveling as a familiar is going to be difficult. I'll just let my wife go on her own if she wants to go places. She's seeing Oasis in Scotland

Yeah I love dogs but owning pets is a pain in the ass.

I need someone who will just let me come over and play with their dog for a bit, then leave.

if your cat bolts out and never returns, wasnt yours to begin with..................... it can probably go outside and walk off whatever ailments, they are resilient animals, unlike dogs

@fingercuffs

My sister has a very successful dog and cat sitting service. Are there any in your area?
Plenty. But none I would trust to not let them out. I need to work out husband's trainer to come over a few times and he come feed them for a couple of days in September for the concerts. He's a cat owner and Jedi so knows how to not let them out the door. Long time between now and September but I've cried probably 3 times today feeling so guilty putting them through that yesterday. And I got a "best cat mom ever" birthday card this morning.

That tells me there are not any good ones around you. My sister's business will actually do sleepovers with a client's pet too.

This is what I would love, the problem is not letting them out of the door coming in or going out. Once they bolt without husband or I around they're gone. I know I'm sounding paranoid but it's how they are.
