Valentina basically saying Grasso won by luck

I think first round went to Grasso. She had the bigger moments. Valentina was clearly trying ot get the lay and pray win. So happy Grasson won.

val was clearly winning the fight till the sub
No she wasn't. Lay and pray tactics don't score points like they used to. Grasso was handling her in the striking every round. I had Grasso up 3 rounds going into the 4th which she was also winning before the sub.

Any time I see her lose she pisses and moans. This time it didn't go to the decision so she had absolutely no choice but to accept it.
If Valentina lost on points and it was clearly 50-40 for Grasso she would still be very angry and make a cringy scene claiming she was robbed.

As much as I love Grasso's victory, this whole thing smells like Nunes/Pena 1. I think Grasso's striking in round 1 completely surprised Val, she got rocked many times and just couldn't seem to get her rhythm back. I don't think she will make that mistake in the rematch.

Valentina is tired. 7 title defesne with more and more pressure to perform with each fight. I think she can beat Grasso in a rematch but she has slowed down.

It could be an off night, but she looked terrible in her last outing as well…

That being said, luck had nothing to do with it. Grasso took the title away from Shevchenko herself.

Atleast it was some decent technical finish considering WMMA is so lacking in that department. The kick was skilfull, the counter into the choke was as well. Still, very few of these fights should be so high up in the main card.

Grasso won by luck. And the needless standup by herzogbot was a huge blessing for her.

Shevy chase “I was totally dominating, that’s why my knees look like I have been break dancing on concrete and I attempted a ludicrous and telegraphed spinning kick which ended up costing me the fight.”

Val was outmuscling her and could have fought safer for a decision with takedowns. Alexa was landing medium shots striking, nothing dangerous but scoring. Val was throwing less volume but harder. Alexa camp did their homework and had a good strategy. Val did her reckless spin kick and paid for it. Val could have defended better too. She dropped to her knees quickly. Hindsight but she could have blocked the choke standing better and at least setup a backflop slam. Guessing Val thought she could buck Alexa forward and slip out but failed miserably. Alexa saw the opening and pounced fast and went all out to get the choke. Val did not get wrists to prevent a lock up.

I'd say that's very unfair to Grasso. She capitalized on Valentina's mistake because she was sharp, with a boxing on par or even better than Valentina's and a very decent defense on the ground. This wasn't a all-punches-you-can-eat-buffet that tired her opponent, or a I have a baby now, I don't feel like fighting/training anymore like when Peña fought Nunes. Maybe Holm vs Tate is a better comparison, but even there the technical difference in each department from both doesn't make justice to Grasso's (or Valentina's) skills.

Essentially, I think Grasso is very disciplined (in and out the octagon) and had a very decent game plan, and that's what ultimately got her to win this fight.

No doubt the ufc with give Valentina an immediate rematch as they'd rather she be the champ and not Alexa. Rematches are shit!
You beat a champion once but it's not good enough, no, you have to try to beat them again to be a legitimate champion in Dana's eyes.
It's also unfair on the others in the division.
Unfortunately Valentina will make sure she doesn't lose the next fight.

Valentina went into a trap. Grasso was waiting for the spin kick and timed it perfectly.
Going into the 4th round Valentina was 2 to 1. She made the adjustment to wrestling when she realized that Grasso was the better boxer.
We need a rematch. I believe Valentina will win in a rematch. She can take Grasso down at will and she will use more leg kicks.
It will play out just like it did with Nunez vs. Pena II.
Having said that, congrats to Grasso for implementing her strategy better. I also think that Grasso is one of the best looking female fighters in the UFC.

The only significant punches were being landed by Grasso. Val was getting boxed up and had to keep shooting anytime Grasso got close.

He means when the ref stood them up from the ground literally as Val was raining down hammer fists...

“Survive Schevchenko on the ground” lol is that supposed to be a flex? That’s a new one.

The girl has dog water takedown defense and even worse offensive wrestling. She offered nothing in the grappling department until Valentina threw that ugly spinning kick and she face cranked her to a win… WMMA tier stuff

So Val got her back taken and choked out by a shitty grappler?

What's that make Val?
