Rumored Usyk vs Wilder - April/May in the US

Yeah Wilder well past it, he should try and get Ngannou in the ring not Usyk, he'll get destroyed.
Wilder is completely shot. He hasn't looked dangerous since the Helenius fight and that was a few years ago. In his last fight he struggled to stop a journeyman. It took him 7 rounds to get Herndon out of there and he'd already been stopped many times and much more quickly at that by guys like Ajagba & Torrez.

For once I guessed right that a fighter had declined and I took the +400 or thereabouts on Joseph Parker in their fight, perfect timing by Parker there.

Surprise, surprise.

Usyk granted voluntary WBC heavyweight title defence with Deontay Wilder eligible to challenge for belt

Now watch the WBA & IBF allow him to make a voluntary defense against Wilder even though he isn't rated by either of them.

Edit. Yep, the IBF is fine with it and they're usually the most strict of the 4 sanctioning bodies.

Nor would the IBF take any issue with the champion boxing Wilder next. A spokesperson for the IBF told Sky Sports: "The IBF is not next in the rotation. It would only become an issue for us if he were due to make a mandatory defence of his IBF title."

Sulaiman as usual is lying. Wilder is currently rated #13 by the WBC not #8 or #9. They'll move him into the Top 10 now so that this looks legitimate.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman told Sky Sports: "Deontay Wilder is ranked No 8 or 9 so he's eligible to challenge Oleksandr Usyk if they wish to do so. Usyk did petition for a voluntary defence which was granted today."

If im Wilder and his team im accepting this fight yesterday.
Usyk's tryin to have all the big names of the past few years on his record. I get why he wants to do that but eh, its not an exciting fight. I will still watch it though and I think Usyk stops him within 7-8 rounds.

For Wilder it's a huge gift because he's not even in the title picture anymore. He's barely in the division's Top 50 worldwide according to BoxRec. And in the sanctioning body rankings he's only rated by the WBC. Even the WBC doesn't have him in their Top 10 but just give it a couple days and he will be courtesy of manipulating their own rankings.

I don't even think it'll go 7-8 rounds. I see Usyk stopping him in the first half. Unless Wilder can somehow turn back the clock and regain the punching power and form that he had before it's going to be as one-sided as it gets.

Just a cash grab. Wilder still looks the part, and left a striking presence, but he might get killed in there at this point, and probably at every point sadly.

Evidently Turki still wanted this fight to be made. He went on TalkSport and discussed it recently. Just found this out yesterday.

Wilder should fight Ike Ibeabuchi. Both guys are past it. It might make for an interesting fight.

Does Usyk know eastern martial arts too? He's ukrainian and their martial arts history is very strong in kickboxing and taekwondo.

does he know how to kick?

I'd wager, he could plant his foot right between your teeth.

I would have liked it a few years ago. He might as well picked a journey man.

What does boxing do when the current HW generation finally retires out?
The same thing the sport's always done since the beginning. We already have fresh blood like Itauma preparing to take over once the old guard is through. He'll likely lead the way for the younger generation of heavies to come up.

He's cross-trained in a bunch of different disciplines from submission grappling to standup striking. That's why he says he's comfortable making the transition to MMA to fight Jake Paul in the cage.

Prime Usyk vs prime Wilder is 85/15. Right now its 95/5. Nice fight for Usyk. Little risk, big name, big money and in 20 years half of all people will see the name wilder without looking at his previous losses and age coming into the fight.

Also nice payday for Wilder at this stage.

So Wilder wants to fight Chisora next as a "warmup" for Usyk. Is he fucking crazy?! That's about the dumbest idea I've ever heard. Hell, I'd take Chisora over him at this point. If this happens, and he loses to the latter, he'll have just flushed his last opportunity to fight for the belt(s) along with a huge payday.

Wilder names the heavyweight he wants to fight before challenging Usyk

Deontay Wilder: “Derek Chisora, you want it, you can get it. That’s for sure. That might be my warm-up fight. I’ll see what people think about that. We were supposed to fight years ago, and I got in some legal trouble and it meant I couldn’t travel. It was supposed to happen and it didn’t happen, and this opportunity means it can happen.”

Fury and Zhang must've knocked all the sense out of Wilder's head.
what the absolute hell is he even thinking considering this? Chisora was always a bad matchup for Wilder and at this stage of Wilder's career its a nightmare.

Yeah, that or he's never had any common sense in the first place. Who the hell is advising him? I don't see Haymon or Finkel telling him to take Chisora before Usyk. It's a move that is just beyond retarded.
