Usman vs Paul Hughes, Who you got?

Usman by good old fashioned 50-45 is my pick but Ill be gladly proven wrong.

lets see i think hughes is being overlooked here, but probably because usman is so good, for me it's a fight between top 3 in the world and a guy who can make top 10 maybe

Javier Mendez said Usman is the best guy he's ever trained, Khabib said Usman will retire as a top 5 all time great fighter. It's clear the dagestani camp rate this guy very highly, even higher than Umar. Some of his fights weren't the most exciting but it's clear he's elite in every aspect of mma and hard to hit, I expect him to dominate paul over 5 rounds or finish him

Javier says a lot of things. I think Umar is better personally.

But I think Usman is better than most guys at LW. At worst top 3. I don't know how Arman vs Usman would go for one. I don't think Usman is worse than Arman, as crazy as that may sound since Arman is so good.

Usman is extremely good, but all I'm saying is that Hughes is a really good fighter too in a different way.

He's smaller, shorter with a reach disadvantage, not as good of a grappler, and obviously usman fights out of a better fight camp too.

For me, Hughes should be around +250 dog, which is a sizeable underdog, so not saying I don't think Usman is great, which he is.

But, Hughes is really good. And maybe Usman is looking past him, you know?

Entriely possible. There are many Id pick to suffer the same 50-45 fate. Usman is so young. "The fathers plan" probably is to swap Islam for Usman once Islam cant go anymore.

This fight will tell us where usman is at, if he struggles with Hughes and has to get a close win then he's probably not better than Arman/Dustin/Holloway or top 5 lightweights, but if he makes it look easy then I think he can have a claim to being the best LW in the world other than Islam

that's not how it works tho but i think thats what ppl will say

hughes is good enough to be ranked top 10. Dustin is easy work for Usman, Hughes is not.

well you'd pick usman against most lws other than islam. arman fight is pick'em fight probably and he's the second best lw.

Probably Hughes agreed to lose beforehand. Otherwise Nurmagomedov would've pulled out already.

Anyways I guess they are fighting soon. At the end of the day, I think Usman is top 3 LW at the very least in the world. I mean who would you favour against Usman at LW other than Islam? Maybe Arman, but I even rate Usman highly than Arman.

But Hughes is a really good fighter, if not taken seriously, is more than capable of beating the guy I think. I'd say Hughes is better than some top 10 guys like Chandler, Poirier, Moicano, Hooker. That's like one half the top 10. I mean UFC ranking is more political thing that an accurate assessment of fighters anyways.

Either way, I think Hughes is going to give Usman a run for his money. No matter who wins, it just means that winner is and was a phenomenal fighter, not that the other guy was overrated.

Usman is talking mad shit, and I feel like he might be looking past the guy a bit. I got Paul Hughes by UD.

Good fight but as expected, a closely contested fight and people will be downplaying Usman's ability rather than praising both.

I thought Usman was always a step ahead BUT Hughes showed true grit, heart and a great engine.

Usman is a true martial artist, it's almost unfair that a guy with such clean Muay Thai can effortlessly transition to elite grappling. There is nothing he can't do. However, if he has a weakness, it's that he doesn't have a great gas tank and the skill he has in abundance is offset with questionable commitment. I don't think he's committed to the game like Khabib and Islam.

Hughes has a very bright future. He's determined, aggressive and fearless. I think both would wipe the floor with most overrated UFC LWs.

yeah that's what they do, they label opponents as a can when they are great fighters then shit on the guy if that opponent do better than they mistakenly thought, which is really unfortunate but that's what how it goes in the world

Usman is top 3 at worst and I think Hughes is better than about half the top 10 LWs in the UFC. Both have a really promising future and wipe the floor they would.

It was a great, great fight for sure. I think that might be the best fight PFL can come up with going forward lol, but definitely made it count.

I think it's also good that it was for the Bellator belt. PFL belt sounds like it doesn't mean much lol

I'd favor islam, Arman, and Charles over usman. That said, Usman is 26 and clearly still developing. It will be very interesting to see what he's doing in a couple years when he's out of the PFL contract.

Don't think Charles has anything for Usman. Usman subs in round 1 or 2.

Arman I think Usman beats him. 55/45 Usman.

I think people don't understand who Paul Hughes is.

Look what he did to AJ McKee.

Look at the monster that Shabily is.

Bellator/PFL's lightweight division is on par or better than the UFC's.

Usman clearly won but Hughes gave him a hell of a fight and made it close, esp with the point deduction.

I had it

Rd 3, 4 ,5 Hughes for 48-46 Hughes.

Only time he took Hughes down really Hughes had better strikes on Usman from his back than vice versa. Most effective striking was from Hughes he was hitting him with the harder shots and the numbers in total were pretty even.

Be honest first 2 rds especially 2nd were not Usman slam dunk rds either.

That said I really hope Highes comes to UFC asap n doesn't get wasted on pfl he could be a needle mover with work. Usman should as well.
