Usman vs Paul Hughes, Who you got?

It's really sad that Bellator folded. PFL and ONEFc is bit of a joke...how they are run, overall fighter depth and so on...we really are at a point of MMA history there really isn't even a comparable MMA organization against UFC. It's really not good for competition where there aren't really alternative opportunities that are somewhat closer.

Personally, I don't even know why PFL bought the Bellator. It just doesn't make sense to me, but I guess we shouldn't expect too much from them given their CEO doesn't even sound like he watches MMA lmao. That's pretty wild too.

There are most definitely guys from Bellator who can compete for the belt right now. Maybe we will see more of them come over since it looks like PFL is just clueless about what they are doing. But it's also true too though whole bellator and pfl thing seems a bit murky, so there's that.

I personally rate Umar higher than Usman, but I do believe some people rate him higher than Umar. I think Usman is at worst top 3. I think he beats Arman who is number 2, so I'd put him at number 2 but I think Paul Hughes is really good too.
PFL bought Bellator for its video library and international broadcasting assets. They don't care that much about their fights, which is why so many of them have been sidelined. I've said many times before, fans talk about fighter contracts because that's primarily what fans care about, but businesses do not care about fighters that much. Companies don't buy other companies just to get their contracted workers.

Paul Hughes is really good, for sure. To be frank, in some type of reverse racism type of thing, I legitimately think people have been conditioned to think Irish guys are hype jobs. Paul Hughes and someone like say, Ian Machado, are legitimately very good.

And I agree, Usman to me is a clear top LW. He'd have as good of a chance at being LW champion as anyone that isn't Islam in the UFC.

Bellator actually got hyper competitive its last few years in every division except HW. So the idea that someone is going to go there because its easier to be champ there is kind of absurd. Bellator is a home to fighters who are not marketable but are incredibly good, so it's like the worst place to go if you're trying to be a big fish in a small pond.

If Usman wanted to be a big fish in a small pond because of lack of ability to be the best in the UFC it'd make more sense to go to ONE (but their contracts are terrible, so they'd really have to think he wasn't that good) or PFL at the time.

Well said, yeah. ONEFc is even beyond being a joke, not to mention sounds real shady so I'm glad he didn't. We need to save Akbar from there lol.

Bellator/PFL combination could've been really good, since depth couldve been improved, but PFL really shot the bed.

Hughes is really good, but I just don't think people don't kinda just dismiss him cuz he's not undefeated and no in UFC. Better than Gary imo by a fair margin.

Yeah it's a real pity. Bellator was like the last beacon of hope against UFC monopoly, but I mean who's surprised, CEO doesn't watch MMA lmao so you know they are def on the wrong foot from the very top...
