International US Set to Lose Billions as Foreign Tourists Stay Away

That was pretty harsh. I challenge you as a conservative about clean air and water and the way you vote, and you call me a clown? It's a stark contradiction.

Harsh?

You're constantly vomiting up nonsense about things I put real-life energy, money, and time into. It is dishonest, immoral, and sick. You continue to do it even after we have been through this multiple times: I'm not a conservative and I have never voted for the GOP nevermind Trump; even posters who have serious policy disagreements (i.e., @BFoe on 2A rights and gun control, @Islam Imamate on border security and immigration) recognize this. What's more, I'm literally on record declaring support for Dems and their sub-25% approval rating in the 2026 midterms despite best efforts from so many of you absolute goofs to put me off with your slanderous drive-by shots. You'd do well to heed the wise words of @helltoupee cause this shit is freakish.

"I'm not a conservative, I just side with conservatives 90% of the time". Spare me the outrage. I haven't lashed out at you like you just lashed out at me. It's just the WR, dude. Hug your gold and be well.

Why would you lash out? I don't slander you.

The money and time I put into the advocacy and protection of public lands are not the WR. It isn't a game, dude. There is no chance I'd ever vote for a modern political party that is outright hostile to their very existence, much less in favor of gutting historic environmental protections that were predominantly enacted during the Nixon Admin (along with the creation of the EPA). Ironic.

hey man. we share a deep and profound love for the outdoors it seems.

there is nothing like the beauty of being alone in the outdoors.

Btw ran into this reddit today if interested

Stories about teddy

Though i feel you know most about the man lol

Nice, already finding interesting content. The x-ray of the bullet lodged in his chest from the assassination attempt is gnarly. Also, one guess as to who is foremost responsible for the protection and preservation of the remote area I was posting about? Thanks, Teddy.

It is everywhere around me and incredibly easy to find solitude. Take a glance at my state, comrade. It's nothing short of glorious. Like, what is even privately owned land?

Is it excessive, @deviake? Fuck No.

You offer the whole of the world a week stay in America and 90% are taking it.

People are broke, particularly in Europe, which’ll be why tourist numbers are dropping - if they even are dropping, that is.

I hardly doubt New York is panicking about their Christmas tourism market.

I don't think Americans quite know how good they have it in terms of the amount of publicly owned wilderness they can access, especially in the west of the country.

You head down to say Patagonia and whilst yes there are natural parks most of the land tends to be privately owned even if it looks like wilderness. Same up in Scotland in the UK, loads of it as privately owned massive estates.

Yeah, less than 20% of the state is privately owned. It's a consistent theme throughout the American West, which just so happens to be the most extraordinary and interesting region of the country where geology, ecology, and landscapes are concerned. It's quite the irony that the most ruthlessly capitalist country on earth was responsible for spearheading the conservation movement with hundreds of millions of acres open and accessible to the public.

The national parks are worthy of their global acclaim, places like Grand Canyon and Yellowstone exist nowhere else on the planet -- but even an unheralded state like Idaho with no national parks is home to an absolute bounty of nature. And arguably something even better: Designated Wilderness. It's more for the backpackers and explorers looking for true adventure. This was not easy to come by, and should not be taken for granted.

The US does of course have the advantage that a lot of this land was only added to the country relatively recently by the standards of a lot of nations(hence why theres more of it in the west of the country) but I guess a big factor as well is because there was such a focus on private land ownership early on you also had a reaction against it and a shift towards a conservation movement.

Seems like a lot of the current situation as well really dates back to the New Deal era, especially the national park infrastructure.

Again I'v been to Patagonia several times, amazing place with some great national parks BUT its notable just how much of it is in private hands, unfarmed land which is fenced off. Given how similar it is to the western USA in many ways that does really stand out to me.

Number of tourists will reduce.
Not only concerns about immigration officer in airport, also casual cops concerned that someone might attempt to sneak in in Dreamland etc beauties under Mr Trump.

Instead of Las Vegas europe does have Monaco etc areas...

Theodore Roosevelt tends to (deservedly) get the lion's share of credit for turning the conservation seedlings that were planted before him by Lincoln and Grant into a full-blown Giant Sequoia, putting an emphatic pause on the wanton destruction of development and resource exploitation running rampant across the country. He is responsible for the establishment of over 230 million acres - more than 1/3 of all public land in the US - but the management of the lands and their levels of protection were far from perfect. There was a lot we didn't understand about forest ecology and the impact of predator/prey dynamics on the health of ecosystems. There was a whole lot of dramatic change ushered in with FDR and the New Deal era. The majority of transformative legislation in general took place between 1933-1973 in myriad areas of society (banking, housing, labor, safety nets, civil rights, environmental laws).

* The Banking Act (1933)
* Securities Exchange Act (1934)
* National Housing Act (1934)
* National Labor Relations Act (1935)
* Social Security Act (1935)
* Fair Labor Standards Act (1938)
* Wilderness Act (1964)
* Civil Rights Act (1964)
* Voting Rights Act (1965)
* Medicare & Medicaid Act (1965)
* Environmental Policy Act (1970)
* Clean Air Act (1970)
* Clean Water Act (1972)
* Endangered Species Act (1973)
* Safe Drinking Water Act (1974)

I'm known for being quite harsh, some might say unfairly, to so called "centrists" and "independents" who I feel are really just right wingers trying to smuggle in their partisan viewpoints as nonpartisan. However I don't get that sense from you even if I've disagreed with you in regards to important matters in the last year or so.

I'm biased as you and I have had a cordial relationship here going back a few years now but as some others know I'm not that afraid to burn bridges on this forum over the merits of an argument and especially if I feel the person I'm talking to is acting in bad faith or making poor arguments in favor of objectionable viewpoints. I don't think that's the case with you though.

Really my main issue isn't with the right generally, its specifically the MAGA movement. Right now a lefty who bends the knee to MAGA is someone I'd respect far less than a principled conservative who stands up to MAGA like Adam Kinzinger or Susan Collins or Mitt Romney or Lisa Murkowski. Whatever disagreement I might have with those folks about immigration or the economy is less important than the shared values around the importance of the Constitution and the threat to it from MAGA and I feel like you and I have those shared values whereas I can't say the same about MAGA and its fellow travelers.

International Tourism is down 12% from where it was last year at this point. Stories like the two German women being deported from Hawaii while on vacation are making headlines worldwide.

The issue here is not that people believe I'm a conservative or MAGA voter because I really don't give a shit. The thing I take exception to is that I would ever co-sign, endorse, or vote for a party with positions hostile to public lands, conservation law, and environmental protections. The dude may as well be in multiple threads calling me a child molesting pedophile. That's the sort of affront I take it as.

I don't remember March ever being a big tourist month for the US. Although due to the house cleaning the US is doing lately, I can see why foreigners might want to choose another destination this year.

You're a good man. He was/is out of line.

You're a good man. He was/is out of line.

I mean, why not just attack or challenge me on the right-wing positions that I actually do hold? Because this shit we're talking about is the absolute furthest thing possible from that, lol. I really don't know how much clearer I can make myself. Anybody who can't grasp this is mentally ill.

...

Republicans have been a different animal since the Reagan Revolution. For all that has changed and been dumped along the way up to present-day MAGA, one notable consistency is the outright hostility not just to nature conservation but the very idea of public lands. It makes them utterly unelectable to me on that issue alone. They are absolute, 100% fucktards and a threat to TR's legacy. It's also a position that isn't supported by their own constituents in western red states that have a lot of it. They just won't fuck off either, forever plotting and scheming to rob Americans of our birthright. And these places are really protected and preserved for the world at large.
They aren't my people. I categorically rule out the very idea of voting Republican, and this completely unworkable, hilariously illegal, and thunderously stupid EO based policy proposal is one of the reasons. You seem to have this impression simply based on the fact that I support strong border security and the enforcement of the country's territorial integrity. It's like comparing apples to orangutans, bruh.

So where are the excuses?
The corporate polluters and policy wonks wielding influence over this presidency and within his inner circle who are actually writing these executive orders are absolute caricatures of human beings and an enemy to humanity, just completely worthless pieces of shit.
