Economy US job growth slows sharply; unemployment rate slightly rises -- Trump fires head of Bureau of Labor and Statistics

Bro my country objectively shits on yours.

Lower crime, higher life expectancy, better HDI, better education system... fuck man the list goes on.

Bro your own country says we do freedom better than you.

America is a great country but I prefer to watch it from Australia that's for sure.

Sigh.

Ive gone over this before.

I got like 2nd to last pick of assignments after being enumerated #1 of 6 and #1 of 8 majors at my job in Germany. I got assigned at Ft Polk. That year we conducted ZERO ranges, as a cav squadron, but managed FOUR transgender sensitivity sessions. We were the JRTC taskings brigade. The Brigade just got back from the afganistan withdrawal. And life there was shit. We got our training calendar dumped and picked up the summer cadet training mission in Ft knox. Yay babysitting college kids. It was on the drive up there my wife sent me a picture of my kid learning to ride his bike. That one crushed me. I could not stomach being the absent dad but the company man anymore.

I called and asked her how angry she would be if we accelerated plans and got out. Losing tricare and pension for life? Big decision. But if you are only staying in a shit job for a pension you gotta ask yourself if it's worth it.

I don't need the money. I'm set because we were DINK for decades and I got lucky with MSFT stock on my first deployment.

You're intent on spinning me up. But I'm on dubbs and I gotta just ride it out. Going after somebody's service is just a dick move when you have absolutely no evidence.
Leaving the military after 17 years is highly unusual. So what if you got lucky with stocks, turning down all the military retirement benefits at 20 years because some stock got hot? That math ain't mathing

That's not much of an argument, is it? Let's expand upon it. Here's the definition of straw man, courtesy of Wikipedia:

"A straw man fallacy (sometimes written as strawman) is the informal fallacy of refuting an argument different from the one actually under discussion, while not recognizing or acknowledging the distinction."

Now let's take a look at your post.

None of these things are related to the topic at hand, but you decided to attribute the statements to some nebulous group of posters here, and then dismiss them sarcastically. That is essentially the definition of a straw man argument. So in other words—not only do I know the meaning of straw man, but you apparently don't.

Well, now you do. You're welcome.

Anybody can go back and clearly see that this was the post you were responding to:

Not seeing anything about Hitler there. So why are you lying? Have I cut a bit too close for comfort? You actually make these kinds of meaningless, sarcastic posts quite frequently, and very, very rarely do you post your genuine thoughts on topics regarding Trump. So I'd say my analysis in the last post I made was actually spot on.

You're trying to enlighten one of the dimmest bulbs

Trumps a fucking moron. I dont blame people for voting him over the other morons, but hes showing that hes an even bigger moron then ever before. Unfortunately, the US is being led down a dark path atm that will continue to effect its citizens for ages to come. This tarrif thing is the biggest blunder yet and I thought Israel mess would have taken the cake. The insane things is that its only just begun with him. Only months into his presidency.

If you thought most had a hate on for the US before, wait till the next few years roll around.

Your best options are to impeach him or....well...ill just leave it right there.

Money and security aren't that important. Spending time with your family is. I missed a lot of critical early year events with my son. My wife sending me a video of my son learning to ride a bike just broke the camel's back. There is a point when you have enough money and it will never buy back the time with your family. Especially if you absolutely hate your job.

How much money would it take for you to make that same decision?

If you are trying to read further in, as did another poster, that I got kicked out - you're wrong. But yeah, it is HIGHLY UNUSUAL for a Major with 17 years putting in a REFRAD. My outbriefs with commanders were truly cathartic. I literally had this same conversation over and over with subordinates, friends, peers, and commanders. Wives of friends were trying to get my wife to convince me not to do it.

I'm pretty open about it - sold or put in storage all our stuff, bought a sailboat and sail the Bahamas and Caribbean full time. I wake up every day and spend it with my wife and kid. It's fucking magical. The alternative was to stay in, grind it out, and be one of the countless retirees who got out, FINALLY able to spend time with their family only to realize the kids are grown and don't know you. Grats on your pension though~

Yeah, we’re officially going to start cooking the books lmao The Biden admin started to do things like this, but now they're going to be normalized under Trump II. There's just too much political incentive to fudge the numbers. We need the people in charge of econ statistics to be totally insulated from elected officials.

I think it is actually a good indicator. Foreign (both legal and illegal) labour is leaving the country and the jobs are being taken by Americans and/or all the new jobs are going to Americans.

This is great, because with a lot of foreign workers, they send at least a portion of their income to family back home. And we basically have no remittance tax, that income leaves our economy. With the income now going to American workers, not sending it to another country, it will further stimulate our economy.

Wage growth is now above inflation, so real wages are up too.

I’m a recruiter. Trust me when I say there are more than enough jobs for Americans and then some. Fact is, some of the positions I recruit for entail hard labor. The type of labor immigrants are more likely to be willing to do. For example, the company that I work for now and many others in the same industry, have a hard time hiring commercial drivers, even with generous sign-on bonuses and benefits. Why? Because on average you have to work 50+ hours a week, could have a route with 20 stops, all touch freight, etc. People simply don’t want to work that hard anymore.

That sounds like two people's jobs combined into one. Perhaps Americans recognize that, and recognize that profitability of industry should dictate better work/life balance. I train these two kids whose Father is a hazardous materials driver, hes gone 4-5 days a week on average when he does drive. He told me last week he'd like to have this own shipping outfit but he stays with that company because of the benefits. His wife has stage 4 stomach cancer. Hes away from her a lot.

My Uncle was an Interstate trucker who actually passed away in an accident. I'm one of 2 nephews (he had no wife or kids, go figure) and neither myself nor my Cousin had seen him more than twice in the few years leading up to his death. He was a very efficient driver, but had diagnosed sleep apnea to the degree that he had essentially permanent dark circles around his eyes:

He had passed out, went off an overpass, truck flipped. He was alive but unconcious, seat belt asphyxiated him.

You may be right about the workload in some instances but it is peak season for us right now. They average about 45 hours a week during no-peak season on a 4 day workweek.

I hire local drivers, who are home everyday. You’re referring to OTR drivers (over the road). Those folks are gone for days, sometimes weeks at a time. That’s a different beast.

yeah blah blah blah, i have kids, i grew up in the military, joined the military myself, so cry me a river i know all about the hardships of military life. I've seen people make really bad financial decisions, especially military peeps, but this might the top one. At a minimum you would collect around $4000-4500 a month at 20 years as an O-4. thats around 55k a year. I don't know your situation but anyone who can't take the military for 3 more years for 4500 a month for life is... probably not right in the head.

Most of those guys that get separated early like that finagle some sort of disability. Isn't this part of the grift? Plus it doesn't cost much to be a drifter.

Well, you sound poor.

Have twitter posts replaced memes for the intellectually stunted that are too dumb to articulate their own arguments?

Just noticing a trend is all.
Crazy thing for me is, I cant even see twitter posts due to ad blocking

So you think you're engaged in discussion and some muppet posts 10 blocked links with no additional input.

Just post emojis or something.

1) Sad part is I didn't get that sweet 100% disability.

2) Factor 10% of a boats value every year for maintenance. That doesn't include fuel. So that's about $50k right off the top. Figure 4 months a year at a marina during hurricane season and random stops at $2k a month.

Good to see my fan club growing. Don't forget to like and subscribe! I posted a 19 second parody video of deaths Head yesterday over in the S&C forums and it already has 1k views. I guess if I need money I can monetize shitposting on Sherdog!
