Trump rescinded DACA.
DACA was put in place by the previous president and taken away by the current president. If that is what the sticking point is here, then the democrats essentially have caused the shutdown over DACA. Like I mentioned earlier, it probably will be a good move for mid-terms but I worry more about how both times the minority party has done something like this and had it benefit them politically.
Furthermore, I don't want to claim Trump has any real thinking behind his actions but he did repeal it and say he wants them to come up with a solution by March. The dems easily could point to that comment as their justification for the shutdown. That's really the farthest I could bend this to say it's the GOP's fault here.
The Republican congress let CHIP expire in September. These were intentional acts that were done to play politics in an election season. Both problems should have been taken care of long ago, and there were already 3 temporary spending bills anyway. This would have been number 4. Maybe they should try governing, instead of playing politics?
Wasn't CHIP added back in for a six year extension? I heard that as a big deal for Dems and thought it was offered? Isn't it currently shutdown now only because we are now in a shutdown phase?
Also, McConnell lied to at least 2 Senators in his own party in order to get the tax cut passed.
Did he get their votes? From what I saw, the vote was 50-50, with 5 from each party flipping.
Please, I implore you to make a real effort to actually learn all the facts, and background information, before taking the partisan stance reflexively.
So far, the things you know like DACA and CHIP are similar things I was aware of but had a different view on. Can you admit that the filibuster made the shutdown far more likely to happen?
