Urine Trouble (Mueller Thread v. 16)

The guy was paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to bait multiple members of the trump campaign both before and after the election.

He has a history of spying on presidential campaigns.

The nyt previously labeled him a secret agent.

Only one of our definitions included secret agent.

spy
spī/
noun
  1. 1.
    a person who secretly collects and reports information on the activities, movements, and plans of an enemy or competitor.
    synonyms: secret agent, intelligence agent, double agent, undercover agent, counterspy, mole, sleeper, plant, scout; More
verb
  1. 1.
    work for a government or other organization by secretly collecting information about enemies or competitors.

What did Halper secretly take from the Trump Campaign? That is part of your definition so I assume you can explain it. Asking questions and being given answers is not being done in secret. If Halper had a device on him that cloned their phone so he could download information that would be considered espionage and you would be correct that he was spying. THAT DIDN’T HAPPEN.

An informant collects information and reports it. Collecting information like a meeting where you ask questions. Or like Sean Hannity where he as dumb questions. Under your definition Hannity is a spy for Foxnews.

This is the secret Halper took away.

You’re so positive that there isn’t any wrongdoing that it shouldn’t even matter. If they did nothing wrong than he had nothing to report back to the FBI.

    It’s right there in the definition bro.

<TrumpWrong1>

I’m sure PM deserves what he gets.

Ambassadors are part of the State Department... aka the Executive Branch.. aka Trump's administration.

Ambassadors are appointed directly by the President...

Kyle Griffin should have been direct and clear in his tweet. The phrase "to a senior role in the Trump administration" in his tweet should have been changed to "for an ambassadorship". It's both shorter and more accurate that way.

Halper has a long history of working as a foreign policy advisor; the allegation that Navarro recommended Halper for an ambassadorship is unsurprising and totally irrelevant to the fact that Halper was working as an FBI informant within the Trump campaign. Ambassadors serve overseas. In context, @Joe 's tweet obfuscates the truth of the matter by making it appear that Navarro recommended Halper to a White House post. Along with the snickering Michael Jordan .gif, @Joe 's post implies that Griffin's tweet somehow undermines the narrative that Halper was a secret FBI plant.

I would argue that any position in the Executive Branch that requires a Presidential appointment is a senior role in the administration.

I understand and agree with that. But in context, it's needlessly unclear to write it that way---it's both longer and less precise than writing "to an ambassadorship". Worse, it adds fuel to partisan fires by misleading people about Halper's status as an FBI informant.

@Joe , why is it funny to you that Navarro might have recommended a foreign policy vet (Halper) to an ambassadorship?

I don't think it's misleading at all. It's just more interesting as a headline.

That's different.

More interesting? How so?

Shouldn't journalists emphasize precision/accuracy over the degree to which their headline is catchy or "interesting"?

I'd argue most people don't even know what an ambassador really is or how one is appointed or that they're part of the executive branch at all..

But if you say senior role in the administration they will know exactly what you mean and it still means the same thing.

I'm pretty confident that more people know the meaning of "ambassador" than know the meaning of "executive branch".

But if you say senior role in the administration they will know exactly what you mean and it still means the same thing.
Do you dispute that "senior role in the administration" leads most to think of positions in the White House?

Looks like you really want to split this hair. Nothing was misleading about it, the actual headline was as follows;

Exclusive: Peter Navarro pushed Stefan Halper for Trump job

And the text you pulled was from the actual article.. so no conspiracy or anything going on. Just your crazy brain being crazy looking for ghosts that aren't there getting butthurt over a tweet which also included the actual headline as well..

Nothing was misleading about it

You shouldn't pretend that headlines don't make a huge difference in the way that stories are perceived.

Why do you think @Joe added this gif after Griffin's tweet? {<jordan}

Could it be because @Joe thought the tweet undermined President Trump's claim that Halper was spying on his campaign?

Also, what relevance does the Navarro story have to this thread?

You're splitting hairs about a tweet.

This was the actual headline of the actual article.

lmfao!

I nominate this for post of the year.

As a politics watcher, I literally read all those articles and watched the final video at the times they came out. But I never saw all of the headlines and that final photo all laid out that way for easy summary. Brilliant!

Nate "pasty vampire" Silver is vastly overrated. Just ask @m52nickerson.

He is not at all. You won a bet, over a year ago. Still living the high...which is kinda sad. Still waiting for your statistical website.

I am proud of my many successes in life, no matter how small. Beating at his own game someone who you pushed as an "expert" (and beating you at the same time) is noteworthy. I can tell you are still salty about it.

I never indicated that I plan to create a statistical website.

I do plan to beat Silver again in 2020. Do you think I can do it?
