News UPDATE: Justin Thornton who was brutally KO'd at BKFC 20 last August has passed away

If anyone watched Masvidal's Org Saturday (if I recall). Krazy Horse got stiffened (again) - standing. Also Anthony Ivy was massacred, almost 0 offense, brutalized and bloodied up pretty heavily.

Edit Johnathan Ivy!

Yo is bkfc montana finna be cancelled this wknd off this news or what?

RIP warrior! Sometimes u need to make a living and take care of your family and that’s the only thing he probably knew, may he RIP and my condolences to his loved ones! It’s like that movie the champ

What are you on about? There are plenty of normal jobs out there.

I've always felt guilty and kind of gross for watching BKFC. Many of those fighters are in there because they're desperate for a paycheck, not because they're noble gladiators with a passion for fighting or because they're altruists who want to entertain the fans. You cannot romanticize this trash that has now cost a man his life.

Dude was a competent MMA fighter.

He had an 8-11 record and had been doing it professionally for over 10 years. He was on a 5 fight losing streak when he left MMA and started doing BKB so at one point he was 8-6 in MMA which is a winning record. And if I read it correctly he was 1-1 in BKB(?) So dude was a competent opponent.

No need to shit of a guy because he doesn't meet your physical standards. Especially no need to shit on a dead guy and dismiss his athletic background.
No, his MMA record was 6-18, not 8-11. He never had a winning record at any point. Also, he never won a fight against anyone with a winning record. A couple of his wins were against people who never won a pro MMA fight.

Maybe at one point in time, against really low level opposition, Thornton might have been competent. But at 38, not having won an MMA fight in almost 5 years, with 5 first-round stoppages in a row, not anymore.

As far I can tell this was his bareknuckle debut but he was fighting a guy with a MUCH better record who was bigger and who had already beaten him in MMA. No reason for the fight to take place.

More force actually being transfered bare knuckle than with gloves. Gloves dampen the impact to an extent, the heavier they are.
The purpose of gloves is to protect your hands, not to protect the other guy's face.

You can't punch as hard without injuring your hands.

Mod edit:
RIP Justin Thornton

I thought I would post this here as the BKFC events get play by play in the heavies, but please mods, feel free to move it.

So I hadn't heard any updates from the event management myself, and have been doing a little digging and found this Reddit post.

According to this post, once he was knocked out and faceplanted the canvas, he didn't move a muscle at all, horrifying the audience there.

A post from a user earlier posted this:

Here is the Podcast, where she talks about it around the 15 minute mark.

Please pray for Justin Thornton.

I hope he makes a full recovery, and my thoughts are with him, his friends and family at this tragic time.

Idk if anyones posted this but its from Clecklers Instagram

Sorry but this is nonsense. Have you ever trained in a boxing gym?
There's a reason why you have to wear a minimum 14oz gloves, and 16oz for heavier fighters.
The less padding & weight there is on a glove, the more power is being transfered. The ultimate damage being caused by ultralight MMA gloves or bare knuckle.
Yes the gloves do protect your hands, but above all it's about lessening damage.

May he rest in peace. Thoughts and prayers to his family and loved ones.

Yes and no. I do believe that smaller gloves or no gloves can contribute to a knockout if a power shot is landed properly.

However, as I said, the glove is there to protect the hands, not the opponent. No gloves means fewer power shots and lower volume.

See this for a discussion of bareknuckle boxing technique: https://www.quora.com/How-strong-would-a-bare-knuckle-boxer’s-punch-be

Shame on the promoter as well. 30lbs smaller and on a 5 fight losing streak and they give him a fighter with a combined fight record of 15-1

It was a clear cut squash match. There's no way a guy with a 6-18 record who recent fought at 175lb catchweight should be fighting 240lb 15-1 guy

They purposely sent that guy out there to get knocked out brutally

Yes the commission will probably be sued by the family for allowing the bout to go ahead. There was nothing fair about this fight.

If therw was a weight discrepancy and such bad form then someone really needs to look at the promotion.
