Signings/Scouting Unsigned Heavyweights, v.4

Any thoughts on canadian HWs Adam Dyczka and Trevor Lefrancois. I see they both recently moved to 3-0

in Arjan Bhullar news, he signed to fight some ex-bellator HW, wanted an ex-ufc

fight hasn't been announced but it's this year so be ready i guess

could be rodney wallace since he is also with hard knocks as their LHW champ

He is 22 years old 6' 2'' 240lbs. Always been an athletic freak. Was a national level power lifter deadlifting and squatting 600+ in both and benching 400+. Played a year of college football decided he'd rather fight and went back to training mma something he has done on and off a couple times over the years.hes been training for 2 years straight now. Thanks for the info! He's got the ability to be great, excited to see how he does. Just hope he doesn't rush it as an amateur, I'm always a fan of heavies getting 6 to 10 amateur bouts in before going pro, pro is usually a big step up in competition.

Anthony "2 TON TONY" Ciampa 4-0 #1 ranked hw amateur in Florida #7 in the south east region The People's Champ !

I've been keeping an eye on you! Keep on winning man, good work. Don't rush into pro until you're 100% ready though, that's always my advice for heavies on the amateur scene, don't risk any pro losses by jumping into it too quick.

Trevor hasn't fought in ages, didn't even know he fought recently. He's gotta be in his mid 30's by now though, and he rarely fights. Might be a bit past the window unless he gets more active.

Dyczka is interesting, he's on my watch list. His level of competition on the local Canadian scene has been low though, so tough to gauge how he would do against mid level regional guys.

Mika Faavale looks a decent prospect from Hawaai. Holds a win over Bryc Palmer (10-1) and 2 days ago looked good in stopping a debutant at AFC in 90 seconds (the fight is on fight pass). Can't find much info on him so don't know how old he is, but based on what he looks like i would guess 24-29 sort of age. Do you know his age @Paul L ?

Strange that no one posted but Ricco Rodriguez is fighting Gilbert Yvel tommorow in Akhmat.

What did you guys think of the guy that fought Bigfoot today? Seemed like your prototypical powerhouse brawler that looks good for a bit before gassing out and getting finished. Small HW too, if it wasn't for his muscles, he'd probably even make 185.

Wow, talk about an old school fight. Didn't know it was happening nor that Yvel had come out of retirement. Ricco would have mauled him back in the day, but I think Gilbert gets it done today.

Shtrykov also has a win over ricco rodrigues via ko back in september according to fightlife.ru

This post is dedicated to the heavyweight prototype of the modern prospect scouting era, Guram Gugenishvili. Please see this video posted in honor of his memory. Guram's memorial video.

For previous Unsigned Heavyweights threads, please see the following links: Thread Two | Thread Three

Due to the overall scope of the heavyweight division and the visibility most new prospects receive as opposed to other divisions, I thought it would be interesting to post my personal list of upcoming heavyweights that could eventually make their way into a major promotion.

I've only listed fighters who have never been signed by the UFC, Pride, Strikeforce, or Bellator, with preference to fighters under 35. Factors I've taken into account when profiling fighters are: Age, camp, record, level of opposition, dedication (fight consistency and athleticism), and skill-set.

Please feel free to post your own prospects, and promote discussion of heavyweights outside major organizations in this thread to make it a continuing resource for fans and insiders alike.

1. Sergey Pavlovich

Height: 6'3" Weight: 241 Age: 24 Reach: N/A Rec: 9-0

Next fight: Alexei Kudin - Fight Nights - November 16th, 2016

A greco roman wrestler with a masters of sport in army hand to hand combat, Pavlovich has a strong base for both grappling and striking. An oddity in the division, Pavlovich looks like a professional fighter with over a dozen fights when he steps into the ring despite his young age and record. Pavlovich is fast and technical on the feet, utilizing a variety of kicks, jabs, and winging punches to overwhelm his opponents. His ground game is suffocating, and his ability to generate power from odd angles and positions allows him to do damage regardless of where the fight goes. If Pavlovich keeps evolving he could be a top 10 talent in his mid 20's.

2. Amir Aliakbari

Height: 6'5" Weight: 260 Age: 28 Reach: N/A Rec: 3-0

Next fight: Shane Carwin - Rizin - December 29th, 2016

Former Greco-Roman wrestler and worlds gold medal winner Amir Aliakbari holds both the potential to be one of the greatest heavyweight mixed martial artists of all time, or one of the most infamous. While Amir Aliakbari's contentious past is behind him, his long term success relies on it to never recur. As one of the greatest Greco-Roman wrestlers on the planet, Aliakbari's athletic ceiling is as massive as he is. Training at AKA Thailand with Soa Palelei and recently Mark Hunt, Aliakbari has a solid stable of training partners to advance his skill-set, an advantage that will be even greater upon a planned move to ATT in the US.

3. Denis Goltsov

Height: 6'5" Weight: 235 Age: 26 Reach: N/A Rec: 18-4

Next fight: Salimgirey Rasulov - ACB - December 18th, 2016

An accomplished striker and opportunistic grappler, Goltsov had a rough start to his career, earning 3 submission losses and a TKO to fellow heavyweight Alexander Volkov. Goltsov stands at a very lean 6'5, however despite his thinner frame, he carries explosive one punch knockout power. Goltsov has recently proven his losses were simply growing pains, and has compiled an impressive resume of wins over veterans and prospects alike.

4. Evgeny Erokhin

Height: 6'1" Weight: 225 Age: 30 Reach: N/A Rec: 17-4

Next fight: TBA

Lightning fast striker Evgeny Erokhin is a David in a division of Goliath's. Utilizing his footwork, exceptional hand speed, and laser sharp accuracy, Erokhin can put down almost anyone who stands in front of him. Following the same path as his idol Fedor Emelianenko, Erokhin is content being a smaller light heavyweight, or large middleweight, fighting in a higher division. This however has cost him some of his earlier fights due to heavier hitting and more physically imposing opponents. Erokhin's future success will rely on him adapting to being bullied by larger fighters, utilizing his footwork and speed to avoid clinches and keeping the fight at distance.

5. Denis Smoldarev

Height: 6'6" Weight: 265 Age: 26 Reach: N/A Rec: 12-2

Next fight: TBA

Nicknamed Brock Lesnar by his peers due to his similar characteristics, Smoldarev is the largest heavyweight on the list. The comparisons to Lesnar end with appearance however, as Smoldarev hails from a striking background. Smoldarev's striking is powerful and crisp, a feature that is readily apparent in his kicks and knees, but it's his pure physicality that allows him to bully his way into favorable positions whether it be on the ground or on the feet, often causing opponents to relent early in the fight. Smoldarev could be the fighter heralded as the top heavyweight prospect in the near future, however he will need to work on his submission defense and ability to overcome more durable fighters.

6. Michel Batista

Height: 6'3" Weight: 255 Age: 32 Reach: N/A Rec: 2-0

Next fight: Drew Allen Stewart - Fight Time - December 16th, 2016

The 2008 Olympic representative for Cuba in Freestyle Wrestling, Michel Batista's wrestling credentials are some of the best in the world. Coming just short of a bronze medal, Batista was originally slated to wrestle against Daniel Cormier until Cormier's ill fated weight cut dashed his Olympic ambitions. Batista's wrestling has adapted well to MMA, and can be described in one word: Aggressive. Batista's training with ATT and Yoel Romero shows in his fights, he shoots relentlessly for takedowns, and once on top he is a torrent of fists and elbows. Batista's one flaw is his age, at 32 he will follow in Yoel Romero's footsteps as a late starter, and while he has fought recently, he will need to improve his schedule if he hopes to make it into a large promotion.

7. Karol Bedorf

Height: 6'2" Weight: 258 Age: 33 Reach: 78.5" Rec: 14-2

Next fight: Fernando Rodrigues Jr - KSW - December 3rd, 2016

KSW's talent at heavyweight and BJJ black belt, Bedorf makes the profiles list more-so due to his consistency than any other factor. Bedorf nullifies opponents strengths and works on their weaknesses well, as displayed in his recent fights against aging veterans and journeyman opponents. Bedorf's primary flaws lie within his strength of competition, fighting only mid level heavyweights that will not challenge him to become a better fighter.

8. Ante Delija

Height: 6'5" Weight: 251 Age: 26 Reach: 80" Rec: 14-3

Next fight: TBA

Delija has experienced ups and downs, and perhaps his only saving grace is his age and ability to improve, whereas an older fighter may see his limit in sight. Delija combines a strong and sometimes wild striking game with brutal top control. Recent fights and a new training camp have given Delija a second breath, as evidenced by his much improved wrestling and submission defense. If Delija can continue to eliminate flaws from his game, he will undoubtedly find a place amongst the heavyweight elite.

9. Dontale Mayes

Height: 6'6" Weight: 240 Age: 24 Reach: 82" Rec: 2-0

Next fight: Kenny Fredenburg - RFA - December 12th, 2016

Former NCAA basketball forward Dontale Mayes brings a rare athletic pedigree to the sport. Standing at a towering 6'6" and weighing in at 240 pounds, Mayes can move like a welterweight, displaying bursts of quick and dynamic boxing mixed in with a grinding clinch game. Mayes speed is almost unique in the heavyweight landscape, bringing back memories of the raw agility and finesse of Pride sensation Mirko Cro Cop. Sporting an 8-0 amateur record and a rapidly increasing repertoire of MMA experience, Mayes eventual entry into a larger organization is only a formality.

10. Tanner Boser

Height: 6'2" Weight: 260 Age: 25 Reach: N/A Rec: 11-2

Next fight: Marcus Sursa - Unified MMA - December 16th, 2016

The first of two Canadian heavyweights on the list, Tanner Boser is not your typical heavyweight prospect. Boser doesn't hold a storied amateur martial arts career, and he isn't an athletic experiment. What Boser does have is the natural ability to understand the MMA game and apply it brutally in a fight, learning from past mistakes and eliminating flaws from his ever evolving skillset. Sporting a 10+ fight record comprised of savage finishes, Boser's goal to end fights is clear the moment he steps into the cage.
