Unsigned Heavyweights - Thread Three

IGF announced GP match-up

Yosef Ali Mohammad vs. Dion Staring
Fernando Rodrigues Jr vs. Antony Rea
Chris Barnett vs. Emil Zahariev
Oli Thompson vs. Ikuhisa Minowa

Tough first fight for Yosef, I hope he can pull it off. Staring and Barnett are tough matches for the younger guys.

I would normally go with Rodrigues, but every time I pick a HW prospect from Brazil lately they lose, so I'll go with Rea based off that string of misfortunes.

Barnett should crush Zahariev, Zahariev just beats up on regional guys, and is a natural 205'er.

Finally I'll go with Minowa. First, because Oli has terrible submission defense, and second, because it's Minowa.

We'll see how things go, I'm excited for this tournament though.

ridiculous step up for yousef but lets see how he does. maybe a new star will be born. and OF COURSE minowa will be there haha. it's really a solid tourney but it'll never finish.

they fought each other ONCE. "rematching like crazy" really? such a zuffa schill but to answer your question it's nearly impossible to get out of an M-1 contract and they appear to be happy there. Not everyone even half decent has to be in the ufc.

I was talking about the ufc heavyweights. They have all fought each other in the top 10 there is almost only rematches left. Ubereem already fought werdum/Browne/mir/bigfoot/nelson. That's a lot. Is there another division like that ?

You've got excited pretty quickly without understanding what I said.

And lol at calling me a zuffa schill when I was actually criticing them.

Sergey Pavlovich moved to 2-0 today with two first round finishes. He weighs around 240 pounds, is 23 years old, and looks like he has a rather shockingly evolved MMA game for someone who debuted a couple months ago. Here's his debut fight:

Veteran vs. Prospect fight tonight - Tim Hague vs. Tanner Boser.

Hague will have the big size advantage but i fancy Boser to take it.

I've updated profiles and honorable mentions after going over tons of new Eastern European and Russian prospects who have debuted in the past year. This region is definitely the future of the division, with tons of heavyweights debuting every year.

The average skill level of these fighters is usually higher than their North American counterparts due to extensive previous experience in full contact martial arts since childhood, whereas most heavyweights in North America have no lifelong experience, with the exception of wrestlers. I can assume this would be due to football, basketball, and other sports that have a high demand for heavyweights, and most big young kids in North America will spend more time practicing these sports than getting punched in the face in a gym.

Tom Aspinall defeats a guy disguised as Satish Jha by round 1 TKO and moves to 3-0.
Tim Hague defeats Tanner Boser by quick round 1 KO.

Does anyone have results for Island Fights yet? Lots of heavyweight fights on that card I'm interested in.

For some reason it always takes a while for Island Fights results to surface.

On the UK/Bellator alumini side of things, Mark Godbeer picked up a win, I believe is now 9-2.... Karl Etherington on the same card, however, lost to a (now) 2-4 fighter.

Aspinall that you mentioned is somebody I see some potential in (fought on same card)

Mehmen and Mike Kyle also got themselves wins recently, on the 27th I believe.

Cleckler and Dakota Merritt both lost, tough times for the former football players. Should do Chaz Morgan vs Alex Nicholson next, Nicholson is the LHW who keeps stealing the undefeated records of heavyweights on those Island Fights cards.

Expected Morgan to win but definitely not via decision. I don't see him being any insane legit threat in the big leagues but he could definitely be a Bellator-esque Ron Sparks/Prindle type guy. Win or lose he'll put on some fun slugfests.

Cleckler hopefully will take this time to improve on cardio and the likes.

Heavyweights trying to preserve their records, trying to get to 8 and 10-0 fighting .500 guys, and as soon as they run into a positive record like Nicholson, who isn't even a heavy, they get steamrolled. Chaz Morgan is a fun brawler, 0 technique, fight is on fb, https://www.facebook.com/InFocusPhotographyLLC/timeline, throwing his punches from the stands. These guys are not very good.

Nicholson is fighting Muhammed De'Reese at 205 for FCF on May 9th...

Totally agree. There's lots of guys on the regional scene who aren't doing themselves any favors by not following a proper development path. They'll fight squash matches to get to 10-0 and then they'll get a call to Bellator or the UFC and drop 3 in a row, or even before like Clecker. Nicholson would beat Morgan for sure, and Mo De'Reese is going to steamroll Nicholson.

And the thrashing machine takes it in a whopping 6 seconds.

I think Cutelaba vs Merad is at LHW actually, although I'm not 100% positive.

Shamil vs Tim Johnson is a weird matchup, I'll probably go with Shamil unless he gasses.

Goltsov has an easy win as long as he takes down Graham. Spivak is a work in progress, but he's a 20 year old heavyweight, so I'm really excited to see his future fights. He gives me the Viktor Pesta vibe.

Goltsov, and Abdurahimov are the only guys here with any sort of upside. I suppose it isn't unlikely that May could get another shot in the UFC if he could manage to string some wins together, I thought he was cut too soon anyways.
