Unsigned Heavyweights - Thread Three

Smoldarev would be an awesome pickup for the UFC.

Anyanwu is no longer remotely on my radar. I've conceded that he'll beat 3-2 guys and lose to anyone legit he faces.

REAL HW tournament results

Amir Aliakbari defeated Radu Spinghel by TKO
Yuji Sakuragi defeated Gan Chul Yoon by TKO
Christian Colombo defeated Tom Sasaki by TKO
Luis "Avatar" Santos defeated Jacek Czajczynski by decision

Great to see Aliakbari get his second win! All the winners are who I thought would win except Santos beating Jacek, that was a slight surprise.

When is the next round?

I wonder what Smoldarev's contract status is with M-1...

And Anyanwu is now in the same bucket as guys like John Hawk and Richard Odoms for me, solid regional guys who can win regional titles, but can't move up in competition.

Pretty weird that Smoldarev fought for another org when M-1 was holding an event the same day

Next Saturday: Evgeny Erokhin vs. Jimmy Ambriz at MFP: Cup of the Western Borders.
About M-1, I think champions have exclusive contracts with M-1, but maybe some other fighters (like Vasilevsky) too. And for other fighters it's like with Bellator -- you allowed to fight for other orgs but you can't sign exclusive contracts with them and you are not able to fight for Russian rival promotions.

I haven't heard Ambriz's name pop up in ages. I hope he's getting paid a good amount to get beat up by Erokhin. I still think Erokhin needs to stop messing around and go LHW sooner rather than later though.

And that makes sense with M-1, although it's just weird they didn't put Smoldarev on their Dev 4th card since he was fighting anyways.

Well I think Smoldarev already fought almost all guys at M-1 roster. I remember he said that he is not interested in fighting Gluhov, because they are friends or something like that. Kudin lost his last fight plus I'm not sure that he is still with M-1.

2 more wins and we'll see Aliakbari in the UFC, I reckon. He seems ready.

Actually, fighting Colombo in the tournament final would be a nice test and if he passes that, get him in!

I could only see him having to take one if he wins, if any. You think if the UFC signs him they'll build him up, or give him some tougher matches off the bat? Interested in who some people would want him to fight.

He himself said UFC told his management they want 3 wins. Would be interesting to see who the UFC gives him for his debut.

That's easy.

3-1 Chris De La Rocha is sat at home waiting for the call. They'll give him a slow, but suitable build-up IMO. DLR, then someone like Anthony Hamilton, and so forth.

Anybody from the list would be good for Fedor now. All guys are big, hungry, young ones.
Way better that mentioned old, small, inactive or retired guys (Babalu, Arona and so on)

Basically. Give him a few blown up LHWs you sign off the street and then move him into the chaffe end of the talent roster at HW.

That's the next best option to the UFC, so good signing. I'd love to see him fight Tybura, Smoldarev, or Sergei. All three are amazing fights.

I think Volkov trains with Kharitonov nowadays, so I think this fight is not going to happen.

Evgeny Erokhin defeats Jimmy Ambriz by a weird body shot about a minute into the fight. Ambriz looked like an end of career Bob Sapp in there, he came in, took a punch, and collected his paycheck.

I know I say this every time, but Erokhin weighing in at 220 pounds looking soft makes him an average sized LHW, and I think he could even fight MW with a weight cut.
