I was also thinking in the heart of NYC its noisy when its quiet so taking a little edge of of that probably made a big difference (but I don't really know anything about guns).

If the police are circulating it, they probably have good reason to think it’s the same guy. It seems like the photos with the dark backpack are from the security cameras of the hostel he was staying at, might be from an entirely different day.

That could explain it, maybe he was in town for multiple days, one to scout, another to do the job.

I don't know if bringing multiple backpacks and clothes would be an advantage or disadvantage. You would have more to get rid of, but it could also help avoid extra attention if he showed up there multiple days

a) He got to NYC 10 days ago on a bus,
b) booked a room in a hostel using a fake Jersey ID, and
c) the photo is from the hostel lobby, and is possibly from sometime before the murder.

On Thursday, the police released two photos of the man who they believe to be the shooter with his mask down. The images appeared to be from the hostel, the HI New York City Hostel. It was unclear when they were taken.

The man used a fake New Jersey ID to book a room at the hostel that he shared with two strangers for at least a portion of his stay, according to a senior law enforcement official.

The shooter’s travels to and within New York City are gradually coming into focus, a senior law enforcement official said. The man arrived in New York on an interstate bus from somewhere south of the city on Nov. 24, the official said. He checked into the hostel on the Upper West Side after that, checked out on Nov. 29 and checked back in the next day, the official added.

Only a matter of time until they catch this guy imo.
