Underrated/Unappreciated Movies

Cat People was kinda fun in a weird way and Nastassja Kinski was a real beauty.

Feel like more people are now acknowledging this to be a fun 80s horror film. To me, much of the backlash was cause it was a Halloween film without Myers. The fact that it is now the ONLY Halloween film with that distinction makes it historically interesting in and of itself. But it's damn entertaining in my opinion and one I like to revisit around this time of year. The Silver Shamrock jingle that gets obnoxiously stuck in your head, Atkins doing badass Atkins shit, entertaining plot, Dan Herlihy chewing the scenery as the villain, and a particularly nefarious villain scheme, complete with a bleak ending.

Certainly was well-received but feel like it deserved a bigger audience. Soderbergh in full on Hitchcock mode with Law giving a very likable and relatable performance as a Hitch-like protagonist- caught up in a situation careening out of control and slowly costing him all the things he values. Very entertaining and well-made.

Classic Marty film that is rarely talked about in his canon. Manages to capture many of his sensibilities while also being distinct from some of his better known films. Dunne's nightmarish odyssey through late-night NYC is like a time capsule to a sketchier time in the city's history but also really combines different tonal elements well- dark comedy, suspense, borderline horror.

Yes, yes, and yes.

haha you should listen to Rogan's podcast with Rob Lowe. He has some really funny tidbits on Youngblood. Including the fact that Swayze tried to pitch She's Like the Wind to be a song in that movie. Lowe tells Rogan everyone was like, "It's a hockey movie, bro.."

Has bad reviews for some reason. Almost completely unknown by most people. But theres something about it for me that makes me love it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but from what I understand the Halloween movies were going to different stories but the first one was so popular that, with the exception of H3 they stuck with Meyers.

So legit. It's like a period piece/detective story/action film with Matrix/Crouching Tiger type influence. What's not to like. Ultra badass movie with a cool plot.

Lumet made so many good ones. Legendary filmmaker. But this is easily one of my favorites. I think Serpico is largely touted as the better film and is certainly the better-known film, but I like the similarly themed Prince of the City substantially more. Really well-written, well-crafted, and with great performances. It is long but very compelling.

Sadly I think it's more that Halloween III was so unpopular that they gave up on the idea of doing a horror anthology franchise with a different story each time out. lol. Yeah I think basically after the second film they got the idea to do a one-off storyline in each subsequent film but because Halloween III was poorly received, they went back to the popular Myers.
