Who said anything about December? I'm sure Umar would've been happy to fight Merab in January or February. I assume based off Umar's recent interviews that Merab is playing games & would like his first title defense to be in March or April, right in the middle of Ramadan so he's not getting the best Umar. Umar is fighting in December because he wants to stay active. He never claimed anywhere that he was expecting to fight Merab for the title in December.

"Because Umar said so?" More like his manager is probably trying to line something up with the UFC and that's what they are hearing back from Merab. It's only speculation from all of us, we'll see what Merab says if he discusses publicly when he's ready for his next fight.

Again, not about accommodating Ramadan or Umar etc. The question is why is Merab seemingly not willing to fight again until March or later? He won the title in mid September & seemed to get out of the fight injury free. It's not unreasonable to expect him to defend the title in February.

Reminder: Merab wouldn't even address Umar when they put him on the broadcast & he pivoted like a politican to talking about how much he loved Dana White etc.

Figgy is a former champion who moved up a weight class, won 3 fights in a row. one against a former bw champ, the other against the most recent BW title challenger at the time, and the first one against a divisional mainstay perennial top 10 guy and he is still being told he needs to fight another fight so yes absolutely umar has to fight another fight as well on the condition that Deiveson Figueiredo must aswell. Umar does not deserve it more than Figueiredo.

See i can be a dumbass too. I can play even stupider and say Sandhagen isn't a championship calibur fighter as he's never been in a lineal title fight. I'm not the one that gave Vera a title fight but i'm not going to say he's not worth earning a title fight over. Much like when colby beat masvidal but hey, thats the UFC's choice to give masvidal Mutliple consecutive title fights. beating a former title challenger puts you in that spot. and it SHOULD and if it shouldn't, then that person never deserved a title fight in the first place.

Umar is ranked higher and beat a more dangerous fighter in Sandhagen in a very dominant fashion. Font is an OK win and Garbrandt is a can, Yeah Figgy is a former champ but Umar carries the Nurmagomedov prestige and have looked more impressive than Figgy, everybody knows Umar is a bigger and harder opponent for Merab
