UFC releases Yushin Okami

Surprised so many care... wonder if it is loads of people just jumping on that bandwagon

A large % will forget about it tomorrow and not even care and many of you don't even really care about it right now, it's the same with Fitch, you all hated his performance and then when he was cut you all kicked up as fuss.

Likely scenario is that he was getting paid more than what he was performing at so the ufc let him go, if he goes on to win a few more outside the ufc he likely will be back.

I really dont understand when people say people didnt pay to watch okami. Its like how do you know exactly how much money each fighter brings in? Look at last card where you had 20 fighters in in. How many people paid to watch most of those fighters? How do you know what each fighter brought in exactly?

Lol at some using his age and money as a basis for why he might have been cut. He's what, 32? That isn't really that old, and we've seen guys his age who were worse get better and make big runs, like Matt Brown is doing now. And even if he has plateaued, so what? He's still top 5, something 90+% of the roster will never accomplish. He's still a top fighter who is good enough to make a run at the title even if he didn't get any better.

Their are guys his age and older who are making way more money and are on worse streaks(Mir, Overeem, Lombard, VERA) and they are still employed.

Doesn't Vera make 100K to show or something crazy like that? And he's in his mid 30s, and his win was vs Eliot Marshall in a fight where he damn near got KO'ed twice and got his arm snapped. How the fuck does Okami get the axe before him?

Or it could be the case that some of us want to see MMA as a proper sport where, you know, we get to see the best fight the best, regardless of what you might think of their level of entertainment.

Doesn't it free up money not going to Okami? He's plateaued. I like him but I'm not sure what people want.

He didn't make it to a title shot the first time he lost to Chael. They gave him a chance again and he made it to a title shot and lost. They then gave him a great chance to get back to the title again and he lost. I like him a lot but they're just moving on. I don't think it's anything personal.

Yeh, hes plateaued in the Top 10 of the sport though.

Thats like cutting the Packers from the NFL or something.

MMA doesnt own the HW talent pool, because it goes to other sports, so LHW and MW are two of the biggest marquee divisions, and MW is already thread bare.

Thanks once again for posting the poll btw.

It's probably because he wasn't performing to the level in which he was getting paid.

Yeah, and Leben's getting around the same $$$, or even more, officially.

He sure as hell is performing. :(

Who are the bastards who voted yes?

I voted yes. I don't consider what Yushin Okami, Jon Fitch, Carmont, ext do in the cage to be fighting. It's the opposite of fighting, they are trying to stall until the clock runs out an edge the other guy out on "points". That is NOT fighting.

The guy was never gonna be champ, he was boring to watch and UFC got all the possible worthwhile fights out of him (vs Anderson, Chael,)

Let's be honest: NO ONE wants to see him do his thing, he might be good and we can respect him but that does not entitle him to $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I want to see Okami do his thing because hes been a top 20 middleweight for the past 6 years and I found his past 3 stoppage losses to be entertaining because I knew how hard he is to stop. He may not be a big ticket seller but I think hes been good enough to stick around in the UFC past 1 loss. This just makes it more obvious that Zuffa is gradually becoming more selective with who they cut.

Nice guy but P4P the most boring fighter on the roster and has been finished 3 times violently recently. No complaints here.

It's not the W/L record that really determines everything. He has looked bad even winning,

ARgghhhhhhh

:icon_lol:

Seriously. WTF.

Were meant to be finding the best fighter, not the best looking fuckin fighter

Arrghghghghgfggff

:icon_lol: Im laughing, but this is messed up.

Its known as logic. Its pretty obvious fans pay to see exciting fighters, Okami in not.

lol how many of current middleweight champions will be champs one day....if thats the standard we would have like 4 fighters in every division. UFC is supposed be where the best fighters in each division is supposed to be at

Low level fighters have their place

A guy like Okami is a spoiler

Do you think that the SA Spurs should be cut from the NBA roster? Or any other successful athlete/team viewed as boring for that matter.

Sure, give another city a team

Absolute fucking crock of shit.

What the fuck Dana? I got to imagine there's not beef there (I don't think Okami even speaks English) and honestly he could beat most of the guys in his division, or give them one hell of a fight.

Fucking hell Dana... get your shit together.

No, actually he's dominated the vast majority of the fights he's won. He just didn't entertain you, that's all. There's a distinct difference between that and looking bad.

this really fucks with the integrity of the sport. Dana needs to decide whether he wants this to be a sport, or a show.
