UFC releases Yushin Okami

@danawhite: @MMA__UK yup u will see people get cut and come back. Always been that way

Seems like Dana's cutting guys so they beat up guys in other orgs then can come back lol. I remember he kept saying Fitch will win a belt in another org 100%

I highly doubt it but that's the vibe I'm getting

Yeah, him being OK with this, so basically choosing not to renew his contact would be more sane explanation.

To collect some wins or whatever.

It doesn't look that way though....

I really hope it's that way and not Dana's explanation. I seriously hope that DW is BSing this time.

The guy was never gonna be champ, he was boring to watch and UFC got all the possible worthwhile fights out of him (vs Anderson, Chael,)

Let's be honest: NO ONE wants to see him do his thing, he might be good and we can respect him but that does not entitle him to $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I can honestly say I don't care. His fights were only worth watching when he lost, and he lost definitively lately... Boetsch and Jacare both KO'd him. I feel like it's a case like with Fitch where Okami is going to go on a very fast decline, and in hindsight UFC will have made the right move. I don't feel like he's a true top 10 anymore. He hasn't had any major wins in a while, and that Lombard fight sucked.

That said, there are 5 or 6 guys who should've been cut before him, just based on standing and potential in the division, but guys like Leben usually go out and bang at least and provide some entertainment. That said, he's probably got a hefty price tag as well.

The UFC is a promotional company. They exist to make money. If they didn't think they were getting good returns from his contract, of course they're going to cut him. It shows some of the faults with only having one serious promotion, though.

Yeh they are a promotional company that is promoting a fuckin sport.

If they want to promote professional wrestling, they should just come out and say it.

Rather than telling fighters how to fight, and then cutting them when they fight to win, instead of to pacify ADHD retards, who are dictating what fighting is meant to look like in 2013.

This thing was set up to find the best real fighters.

Not to recreate the bullshit from kung fu movies, completely divorced from reality.

Dana just moved into the choreography business.

Fuck this fuckin shit.

He's a great fighter and was on a good streak until Jacare... He's only had back to back losses once in his career. Finishes half his fights, I would never expect top 10 to get cut.

I guess I get why so many people are up in arms, you'd like to see these fighters have some sort of job security, I just don't think anyone says, oh boy Okami is fighting on tonight's card, it's a must buy for me. Hell I really wouldn't go out of the way to watch him on a free one. I guess I understand both sides, this is a business first and this is one of those tough/shitty business decisions which may not be popular but in the end necessary

lol how many of current middleweight champions will be champs one day....if thats the standard we would have like 4 fighters in every division. UFC is supposed be where the best fighters in each division is supposed to be at

Okami in the 3rd round against Lombard was probably the worst thing in the UFC since Starnes' backwards man impression.

Unless Yushin is getting Anderson money this makes less sense than Fitch imo

Yet despite all the complaints, you will continue watching the UFC no doubt. And that's exactly what they know also.

You're the last type of person Zuffa would ever consider when making decisions.

I explained why. He shouldn't have been ranked so high unless he consistently beat ranked opponents, which he didn't. He fought top competition occasionally. He also had problems with Dana always bitching about how broke he is. So I wasn't as surprised to see him get cut as I am with this cut.

You explained why you thought he shouldn't be ranked highly, which doesn't change how he was ranked.

by the way to all those saying that the UFC is a business, how can the UFC claim that it is the premier organization in the world when it's letting all of its top ranked guys be dropped to other promotions?

Seriously, Dana just wants to make this a the ultimate stand and bang championship

The UFC are a promotional company. Full stop. I think it was a terrible cut when you take into account what the UFC claims to be (the ultimate proving ground and all that shit). If they can make more money without Yushin on the roster, they'll do it in a second and that's simply the reality of it.

Well he wasnt beating the champ or Weidman. He could however beat any up and comer thats exciting. So that is why he is being cut.

Do you think that the SA Spurs should be cut from the NBA roster? Or any other successful athlete/team viewed as boring for that matter.

Fitch is 35.

Okami is 32.

Fitch had suffered a lot more set backs too.

Okami is still arguably a top 10 guy, and the premier organisation in the sport cutting top 10 guys in an already weak division is bullshit.

Theres like 47 fighters in that division ranked beneath him.

By suffering alot more set backs do you mean getting a bullshit draw and then get KO'd by the current number one contender?

EDIT: I forgot D1 Maia beat him aswell.

Point still stands though. Both fighters deemed not exciting and got cut after a loss.
