Okami may be Japanese but the Japanese fans do not care much about him (mostly because of his style of fighting I would imagine), so that doesn't work in his favor much.

is that really true?

he's not a star like a some other japanese fighters, but i think that's primarily because he spent so much time fighting outside of japan and never really got hyped up by one of the major organizations that created these stars (PRIDE or HERO*S). although i agree his style of fighting might have something to do with it as well.

but as i mentioned earlier, he's on a lot of japanese mma magazine covers, in articles in newspapers and magazines, and in commercials and stuff.
