UFC releases Yushin Okami

Akiyama is 0-4 in his last 4 fights and yet he stays whilst Yushin has to go fight for Bellator or WSOF now. It's almost like the UFC couldn't care less about being seen as a legitimate sports league or something.

This isn't news to me. The UFC has always been a joke. This is just business as usual.

Damn thought this was a joke earlier today. Kind of a head scratcher if you ask me. Makes the UFC look less legitimate as far as being a true sport

You've got it twisted: the UFC is not a "sport." MMA is. They didn't retire Okami, they said he wasn't worth promoting, and they are pretty correct. I dread his fights.

Yes, but the company is making a clear statement in recent years that this kind of crap will not be tolerated. The UFC is finally doing something about this bullshit, and showing that if you want to play that cage hugging/dry humping game then you better never, ever lose a single fight.

No one wants to watch that garbage, it's not fighting. Excellent cut.

I'm not a fan of it either but that's not true because there's a ton of grinders on their roster still how about that Carmont guy he pissed dana off why is he on the roster still?

I just think he should he cut them all if that's his stance but nowadays in general you're going to see lots of that everywhere.

What does the ufc not signing okami have to do with sport legitimacy at all. If Yankees don't resign cano does that mean baseball is an illegitimate sport.

That's pointless example. Completely different situation.

UFC is not a team guys can play or not for.

Better analogy would be Cano getting thrown out of MLB just because he's boring or something.

Still flawed analogy, but closer.

The only ratings they care about are TV ratings. He isn't a top 10 FIGHTER either, he's a top 10 points-based decision-seeking staller. What Okami does isn't fighting, it's stalling until the time runs out.

I checked again, just to be sure. He's listed as an MMA fighter. I then double checked the ratings. He's universally rated in the top 10.

No way this can be about his recent fight record. Okami's 3-1 in his last four fights, and both Belcher and Lombard are credible opponents. Plus there's no shame in losing to Anderson, Jacare or even Boetch.

FYI Okami is the Japanese fighter with most KO stoppages in UFC history with 5. Go figure.

He isn't a crowd pleaser. In fact, he can be downright boring at times. The last loss was a excuse to cut him. It's a simple as that.

That's actually a pretty fitting analogy. It takes away from the legitimacy of claims that the UFC tries to bring together the best fighters under one banner. They just gave up one of their best MWs.

And this is why MMA fans are always made fun of by the masses. If the wrestling aspect isn't there then it might as well be called toughman because all MMA's boxing sucks compared to real boxing. So congrats on supporting a glorified toughman.

Exactly

I wish we could have had the chance to see Okami vs Bisping. Okami would have beaten the shit out of him.

I'm happy to not watch Okami anymore though I'm not sure his record warranted his dismissal.

I would absolutely not be surprised if Carmont was fired as soon as he losses. Is there a single person on these boards that would care if they never had to watch that guy again? He actually actively hurts their business with his non-fighting style.

He cost too much in relation too how much he made the ufc. He is a great fighter solid top ten. The news of him being cut neither surprises me or upsets me. Boring ass unaggressive blanket fighter

true just look at their recent signings ,they sign cheap fighters who are not really top level talent and they cut likes of Okami or Fitch?

if you want to be legit sport, keep best fighters even if they're boring grinders.

Yeah, Fitch proved his greatness by getting KTFO in a smaller promotion. Too bad we didn't get to see that again in the UFC for big PPV bucks, right? It was a robbery!

How can some of you be okay this this? It's absolutely horrible. Fuck the ufc for doing this. I guess it doesn't matter how good you are..

Fuck this shit. Nothing like cutting top 10 fighters to give a legitimate feel to your promotion as the #1 in MMA. I mean the guy is #6 in your own rankings, FFS. :icon_lol:

Let's face it, if they cut Okami after being on a 3 fight winning streak then losing to Jacare in Brazil there isn't much hope of ever seeing him back in the UFC.

The Japanese crowd is pleased.
