Would you refuse a million to get out of retirement to get beat upon for 5 minutes? Nobody would be mentioning Stipe if it weren’t for Jon explicitly asking for this freebie. Low risk, high reward, title defence as a bonus.

Only person being held back is Tom. He's cleared out the two- three, contenders at the top (Blaydes, Sergei, Volkov). And Tom has an interim title and two co main title fights. He has his place

Not saying it's right. Just not that HW is a flourishing division
 
You can thank Conor for this type of crap. Win a belt, don't defend it. Lose at a higher weight, come down and get a title shot. Disappear for a bit come back get a title shot.

Since Jones/Stipe didn't happen before Tom defended his belt, Tom is the true champ. Whoever wins Jones/.Stipe fights Tom for the belt. The fact Francis left the UFC means he gave up being champ.
 
Does anyone outside of Jon, Stipe, and Dana give a fuck about this fight? This is the most irrelevant “big fight” ever.

If you want to learn how to do shit ass backwards, look no further than the UFC. It's like they don't even care anymore. Charging $80 for a shit product should be criminal. I can't fathom who would even pay that amount.
 
Jones is going to steamroll Stipe quicker than he did Gane. It will be one of the most embarrassing moments in UFC history after all the undeserved hype and years and years of waiting.
 
The UFC should miss out on bringing back Jones and Stipe ?

Edit : Imagine he fought Fedors competition. ZULU HMC Herring Big Nog ogawa Shilt Coleman Randleman ect ect. Fedor was a good fighter when the sport was still evolving. when he fought the first real good and big HWs in strikeforce he lost.

It sucks but it's no different from booking stuff like Wand/Rampage 3 or Shogun/Lil Nog in UFC. It's guys from same era. Same reason Hendo/Bisping was booked. It's not the highest level fight, but will sell enough to warrant it.

Strangest thing about it is I think Tom is a bigger draw than Stipe at this point. If Jones wants to retire after his next fight you think they’d send him off against a fighter with a longer shelf life.

Last time we had this kind of situation at heavyweight, it made the sport even bigger.
 
Imagine telling someone years ago that Jon Jones’s next fight would be against an opponent with 0 wins over the current UFC roster.
 
I don't know who the UFC thinks is interested in this fight. It seems Dana is hell bent on giving bending over backwards for Jones for some reason. At least with Fedor getting a title shot in his last fight, he actually earned it with fighting and winning. Stipe doesn't fight and Jones wants another trophy win.
 
Jones-Stipe could have made sense 4 years ago. Even 2 years ago. Jones moving to HW and facing Ngannou made sense. Instead we have a bullshit belt on the line between the 2 most inactive fighters on the roster. it’s just in insult to the HW division, the real HW champ, and the fans.
