Rumored UFC Has Changed Some of Its Contract Practices

I can't wait to see whatever fighter is currently on the UFC's shit list get 3 20 second clips of them getting knocked out or otherwise not looking good, just as a good ol Joe Silva kind of fuck you.
I would have to assume the fighter chooses the footage. Otherwise every fighter would get themselves shadow boxing.

Not sure, I would lean toward the UFC picking, both because it gives them more control and also saves their presumably overworked production interns who have to fetch footage for 600 fighters. Too many fighters would want new highlights after every win.
How is this not a win win?
Because then the UFC's other sponsor opportunities, such as the mat, become less valuable. For example, they can't hypothetically go get Nike as their cage sponsor only for Izzy to show up wearing an Underarmor sponsor. Or at least the UFC would not be able to charge Nike as much.

So GSP could have been a free agent already of he didnt cherry-pick Bisping? Interesting.

This hasn't been mentioned before? Surprised the fighters haven't said anything

Makes no sense for the UFC to choose what highlights a fighter no longer under contract can have. Its not for the whole roster if I am understanding correctly. Just those no longer with the UFC.

I read it as those highlights would only be extended to fighters under contract. I can't imagine the UFC lettting Corey Anderson post highlights of his win over Jan while he fights for a rival org, ya know?

Not exactly, the first contracts started from July 2017, GSP got a new contract a few months earlier if I recall.

All UFC contracts historically include a confidentially clause, you're only supposed to share with you manager, lawyer and maybe a coach acting as an advisor.

Could've changed in the future due to antitrust lawsuit like the addition of time frame contracts. Most likely changes were made during WME era.
I doubt that. They have no reason to change anything in response to the antitrust suit. They’ll make changes when they have no choice. WME is just a slimy as Dana. There’s no reason to believe that clause isn’t in all contracts. The UFC doesn’t want people knowing fighter salaries. They colluded with most commissions to stop releasing fighter pay.

The whole point of the highlights is to have something to promote yourself when you don't have the UFC as your promotion. UFC fighters don't need 20 second clips when they have the UFC able to make hour long shows about them.

What? Other way around. It's so fighters can promote themselves on their own social media whybwoukd the UFC extens that to guys in Bellator. It's essentially free PR for the UFC and it's fights with minimal effort. You'll notice the UFC loves to cut corners on production and marketing, this is just a way to outsource some of it for cheap.

Yeah. Word trickles out of the mma grapevine slowly, not to mention sharing contracts with media is still illegal. There's a reason the UFC has that clause in it and why Izzy in his video on how he spent his first million said "I allegedly made ___ dollars for this fight." Legal or not, that kind of language has a chilling effect.
Pretty sure Nash mentioned the 5 year max awhile ago in an article but this might be that he finally confirmed it was in all the contracts.

I took it as something the UFC "Allowed" in order to avoid more class action lawsuits. Otherwise why is this important? Does the UFC restrict current fighters from posting highlights of their fights? No need to restrict fighters under contract. Its fighters who leave and have no footage of their careers to promote themselves that need it.

This would've been handy for Nick Diaz years ago. Wish the UFC didn't steal his prime years and his love for fighting. Really is a sad story. Nick was so fun in SF.

So Nick could have instead went to Bellator and fought Michael Page for $2000 and a bus ticket?

Anderson tried to Cherry Pick Bisping and couldn't get it done. Even after throwing that cheap shot knee he still got beat. Interesting
Protect yourself at all times, Herb is to blame for that. He didn't call time when Bisping dropped his mouth piece Anderson didn't do anything cheap. Just dumb for prematurely celebrating.

Edit: Full disclosure I typically stand up for Herb he does more good than bad. But that was one of his worst fuck ups for both fighters, Ping getting kneed and KOd without a mouth piece and Anderson having a KO taken from him because Herb wasn't paying attention to either fighter.
