UFC debuts on Paramount in January: who should defend the title?

By the time Volk fights again he will have added almost another full year to his combined reign and that's just from 1 fight.
He' very, very lucky that Topuria vacated.

His next defense should be against either Evloev or Murphy.

I don't think volk sees it as lucky to be honest. He wants to be fighting, and he wanted to fight topuria again.

Bruh Merab is fighting in December and is the one champ that deserves a break. Prates should be fighting a number 1 contenders fight not vs Buckley coming off an L and Garry vs Belal is happening this week.

I'm a pretty big Volk fan.
Volk is one of my favorite fighters and it's been one awesome journey watching him climb the ranks, earn his title shot, win the belt and become the 2nd best FW of all time.

But tbh, he made some huge mistakes with the Topuria and Makhachev 2 fights.
You don't accept a fight with a knockout artist less then 4 fights removed from a knockout loss.
Actually, a fighter that lost by head kick KO should not be accepting any fights for six months at least. Even better if you take a whole year off.

4 months isn't enough time to recover fully meaning Volk was heading into that fight compromised and it showed with how easily he was KOed.

While I like the fact he's not afraid at all to fight the scariest, best fighters in the sport even on short notice.
That decision seriously damaged his legacy.

It will most likely be: Topuria vs Paddy, Chimaev vs Imavov.
Seems good to me.
Two of the biggest undefeated stars fighting streaking contenders.

And the buildup to Topuria vs Paddy would be pretty fun too.

Is Topuria vs Paddy still not official for UFC 324? The event is 2 months away. Not a good sign if they don't have a main event locked in yet.

I think with the new UFC/Paramount Deal, as well as no more PPV points, Champions and stars are all going to be asking for a raise. Probably not easy negotiating for the UFC with Ilia, Khamzat, O'Malley, Tom, Izzy, Kayla, Nunes, Strickland, and any other decent draw.

Update: Chimaev out until at least April due to foot surgery

9 fights in 7 years from him isn't a great look. I think we're seeing the last of the prime Borz. He might end up being the Russian Chris Weidman. High and short peak, loads of inactivity and injury filled career.
