UFC "best boxer" hilarity

I love how whenever a fighter has a decent show with their hands the collective MMA fan base is immediate to include them as elite boxers. This was true for Yan (who has looked sloppy as hell routinely), kattar (because, frankly, I have no idea why), Diaz brothers (apparently being punching bags and having reach advantages on opponents = elite boxing, despite clear and obvious shit technique, power, defense, etc).

The fan base has an obsession with boxing, and always wants to laude the latest hand strike performance as a boxing master class despite the performances usually being shit boxing
I think this has to do with MMA fans being self loathing and have an inferiority complex about their own sport.

As if good boxing is something that must be attained,so then its ok for them to like it. "MMA sucks but im a fan of Petr yan,cos he is a good boxer. LOL @ all you guys liking other fighters besides Yan,with their shit striking"

i mean, yeah kinda. his boxing skill is not how he wins fights.

Throwing a knockout punch is a boxing skill isn't it? I think I know what you're saying, he's no Willie Pep of course but knows how to get the desired result in a boxing match better than anyone I can think of right now.

I would argue though that Wilder is not fighting in a golden age of heavyweight boxing skills. On top of that, he’s fought way less top 10 or no 1 contender opponents than Joe Louis or Ali or a lot of other heavyweights. I think he’s able to get away with his lack of boxing skills because of this, as well as being blessed with literal once in a lifetime power.

Ts has the obsession

Nick diaz and Anderson Silva were the best boxers in mma and it wasn't even close

ridiculous. drunk troglodytes knock each other out on the street everyday. that is not indicative of boxing ability

if you take “boxer” to mean “human being who competes in the sport of boxing” then yes he would be a great boxer under those guidelines, but a boxer is someone who boxes. they stick the jab, use footwork, use angles, gauge distance, slip punches as well as parry/block. that is not deontay wilder. if he doesn’t blast someone out early, he loses 7 rounds and THEN blasts them out. one of the greatest punchers ever and IMO, the second best heavyweight of his era. but not a great boxer.

Fair enough. I guess it depends how highly you'd rate Fury, Wilder should have won that first one, the second was a mauling, the third Wilder definitely had his chances. I feel Fury gives any HW in history problems with his size, reach, skill and toughness. Though Wilder nearly matches him for height and reach, maybe that helps, they're both giants compared to blokes like Marciano, even Ali.

Sure, but they don't do it consistently do it to the best boxers in the world.

I don't know how you can say these two things after another, the sport is boxing and he's the second best boxer in his era, but he's not great? C'mon man

i’m not saying he isn’t great, im saying he’s not a skillful boxer. he doesn’t win fights by BOXING. he’s a puncher, and only a puncher. he’s arguably the most effective puncher ever other than probably george foreman, but he’s still a puncher. he doesn’t do much boxing. there’s not much skill in what he does.

Did you notice that:
a) a youtuber is making more money than almost every boxer not named Tyson Fury
b) that same you tuber is constantly begging for the attention of MMA fighters, fans and promoters.
That same “youtuber” that’s been embarrassing mma fighters left and right with a couple years experience and making sad insecure mma fans cry themselves to sleep LOL

I guess we need to agree to disagree mate, all good

That was the joke, other guy got all salty though.
Salty? We were having a decent back and forth until you got all passive aggressive and you got exposed for your lack of knowledge. "Hurr Durr Deontay Wilder isn't that skilled and he wins Durr".

Or what were your intentions with that comment? Just a throw away? Miss me with that fake internet bullshit. You played a stupid game and you won the prize you deserved.

Yeah, I know.

That's why Deontay Wilder sucks at boxing right?

No, I didn't misunderstand you.

Most people have no idea what they are watching tbf.

Basically every so called "expert" going into the Kattar/Allen fight was saying Kattar had a big advantage with the boxing and Allen would have to shoot for takedowns to have any chance of success.

This is because Allen is well rounded so people who don't really know what they are looking at throw him into a 'jack of all trades, master of none' category. Whereas Kattar mainly boxes, so people take that and say "He's a great boxer because he outboxes wrestlers."

Anybody with half a clue and any awareness of the fighters involved knew that Allen was going to box Kattar's ears off if the fight remained standing. Yeah he's more well rounded than Kattar, he's also better at the thing that Kattar does best.
No bro stop, KATtArs 1-2

I think part of it is that the UFC has sold the idea that a "good boxer" is a stiff upright fighter who throws straight punchs/jabs.

Obviously the quality of their boxing is being viewed within an MMA context. Compared to actual boxing its well...mostly shit.

After watching Jake Paul emasculate UFC champions I have to admit boxers are the superior fighters.
