UFC "best boxer" hilarity

It's incredibly difficult and subjective to anoint someone as the "best boxer in the UFC", given that there are so many other things happening in an MMA fight. The so called "best boxer in MMA" would need to have many other developed skills to even begin to show their boxing skills. So someone may indeed have better hands than someone, but appear as a much worse boxer in an MMA fight if they have no grappling/kicking ability. So it's nearly impossible to discern. Still a fun discussion though and no need to hate on it.

someone said it earlier:
Alexander Volkanovski has the best boxing now

Masvidal before him

This goes back to 2011-12 when JDS, Jon Jones, Jimi Manuwa, and others called out boxers after every win. <45>

Boxing is in MMA's head rent-free
Did you notice that:
a) a youtuber is making more money than almost every boxer not named Tyson Fury
b) that same you tuber is constantly begging for the attention of MMA fighters, fans and promoters.

That's part of it, but this goes back much further. Dana and the Ferttitas directed fighters to tweet negatively about Mayweather vs Pacquiao back in 2015

I do agree with the hilarity. But I can make up for two arguments for 'best boxer' claims, regardless of their relevancy.
they're irrelevant
Number one being credentials in amateur or professional competition. I don't remember who it was, but some fighters I believe held the us wide golden gloves amateur trophy. I think it was Kattar and Stipe, or maybe James Vick or someone or something or whatever.
Second being stats. It's easy to point out the best submission artist. Just look at the submission average. Best wrestler, td average plus maybe td defense. For 'best boxer' just look at the stats for punches landed vs punches absorbed and make it a ratio. Maybe consider knockdown rate as well.

I love how whenever a fighter has a decent show with their hands the collective MMA fan base is immediate to include them as elite boxers. This was true for Yan (who has looked sloppy as hell routinely), kattar (because, frankly, I have no idea why), Diaz brothers (apparently being punching bags and having reach advantages on opponents = elite boxing, despite clear and obvious shit technique, power, defense, etc).

The fan base has an obsession with boxing, and always wants to laude the latest hand strike performance as a boxing master class despite the performances usually being shit boxing

A “shitty UFC boxer” will still look like a pro Vs a Joe against the average sherdogger or untrained guy. There’s only a couple of guys like Shields and Askren who wouldn’t.

Boxing is harder than it looks. Unless you have had specific training you will look like a spazz.

Paddy Pimblett is a BJJ can compared to the elite but there’s a video of him submitting 10 marines one after the other.

A fair video representation of what your average sherdogger would look like trying boxing for the first time;

You do realize that most are speaking of boxing in comparison to other MMA fighters and relative to MMA as a hole.
This. People mention these names when debating the best boxers in mma, which are all fair contenders for that. I don't think anybody actually means elite boxers, as on the same level as elite actual boxers.

Best boxer in the UFC is Alexander Volkanovski, no doubt.

He definitely doing better than Max

Max:

Strikes Landed Per Minute 7.24
Striking Accuracy 47%
Striking Defense 59%
Strike Absorbed Per Minute 4.89

Volk:

Strikes Landed Per Minute 6.79
Striking Accuracy 57%
Striking Defense 60%
Strike Absorbed Per Minute 3.53

Always laughed about this especially when it came to mcgregor, the guy only started mma when he failed to make the Irish Olympic boxing team. Yet in mma people thought he was the second coming and could beat mayweather.
