Hi guys,
I've been in bed for a few days with some serious stuff: Mycoplasmatic Pneumonia AKA "Mykoplasma in the lungs".
It's a fairly new children's disease, courtesy of China. We don't have antibodies so it's very contagious albeit not very dangerous.
I'm only betting on Valentina and I'm excluding the fact that she's one of the GOATs of WMMA.
The reason:
V comes from a TKD background and then became a Muay Thai master.
Point contact striking is her bread and butter, that's why she is a great counterstriker.
Manon and Valentina are at the same level at point striking, one with TKD and the other with Karate.
All other technical aspects, Valentina is superior.
The only advantage that I give to Manon is that she is very tall and big for the weight class.
If Valentina follows a similar plan like the last Grasso fight, then the path to victory is clear: Wrestling.
I'll also put a little bit of cash at V via Submission.
Quoting myself here.
I had V and M on the same level at striking. However, it was shown that V was superior and that gave her the win.
The spinning attacks and counter right straights hit all the time while M's sidekicks did nothing.
The fact that V is a southpaw definetely played it's role on this.
As Valentina was generally sidestepping to her left, all big left punches were easy to avoid, while the right sidekick is a very linear attack so it's very easy to avoid if you keep moving (and also V is master of distance management), a front leg (right) mid/high kick would have been a better choice for M but it's not a very strong kick unless you have Alex-Pereira-level Muay Thai + you almost always telegraph it and it leaves you very vulnerable to single legs and upper body takedowns.
M's corner recognized that kicks weren't working and at the 4th and 5th told her to just focus on punches, however the skill difference was big in boxing as well.
Manon dominated in the clinch and the cage with the knees, but she didn't have the wrestling and dirty boxing to capitalize more on it.
Both from body language and face damage, it was obvious that V had done much more damage.
I don't think V vs Da Silva is an interesting fight. V while simple dominate with her superior grappling skills + Da Silva looks smaller than Grasso.
I'd like Sevchenko to fight maybe 2 superfights with Weili and hopefully fight Dakota Ditcheva before she retires.
I don' t see any other woman beating Manon.
The next, obvious fights are Fiorot vs Silva and Blanchfiled vs Grasso. Both are super interesting.
Manon easily beats Da Silva, mostly because of size.
Blanchfield needs to improve her boxing A LOT if she want's to go any further in the division.
