UFC 314 underdog pick of the night

Elkins is a pretty big underdog.
If you look at my original post and the reply you will see that the original post had a mistake that was corrected. He had Elkins as the favorite and Juicy J as the underdog. I changed my pick to Lopes.

  • Darren Elkins +380 vs. Julian Erosa -300, featherweights
Elkins is the underdog according to the OP?
Yes, in the original OP it was. You can see it in my original reply and follow the thread. I changed my pick to Lopes since it was a mistake in the OP. No big deal, just a little confusion.

So in the end I've picked:

Lopes, Chandler, Bryce, Ige, Xiaonan, and Gore.

At one point I felt like I was going to take all dogs lmao
I know right, lol, so many live dogs this card!

Now that I have listened to the things I wanted to I am confirming Chandler as my official pick.

Erosa is a heavy favorite and will probably get an early TKO/KO, imo

I missed Xiaonan. I sometimes skip over the women's but I like her a lot in that fight. Still sticking with Lopes as my pick.

I see you and others picking Chandler. I'm surprised. This seems like a classic UFC move of building the young guy with the aging big-name veteran. I'd love to see Chandler knock Paddy unconscious but I think Paddy wins this fight. It's a very good night of fights so we we will see what happens.

"So many live dogs this card!"

This is a card with very good matchmaking IMO. I complain when it's the reverse so good job Dana, Hunter, Mick and others.

Hmm, not for underdogs outside the main and co main, well in my experience at least.

These are my value adjusted picks.

I don't consider fighters like Lopes +110 an underdog.
That’s a matter of definition. For me a pick em is exactly even odds, beyond that they are either a favourite or an underdog.

Chandler vs Paddy is credentials vs potential. One is super talented but has yet to show the ceiling and the other has been in there with all the best, but he’s old and worn and eventually will fall. I tend to lean towards credentials. You have to prove it to me first. Odds I find tend to lean towards potential and hype (warranted or not)

Yes the ufc wants to build up their star and protect him with favourable match ups, but if he keeps winning he needs to keep going up. Eventually you reach a point where everyone above is super dangerous. What is the safest way forward, lowest risk highest reward. How about a 37 year old lightweight who has been through countless wars and has been on the shelf 2 years. He’s a big name and has only lost to the highest level fighters. “Former title changer”. This fight brings the high level name and increased viewership with the knowledge that Chandler isn’t getting any better, he is in define, but he’s still mostly seen as being the level he was 2 years ago when he last fought.

The fact is, favourable or not, every hyped fighter either reaches the top, or reaches his top (for now at least, he can improve). Paddy is only fighting up 4 spots, the question is can he beat anyone in the 6-10 plus Chandler is probably the biggest name there.

lots, Like all of them.

Ige, Miller, Xionan, lopes, chandler, Mitchell all great underdogs

Someone explain to me why Paddy is favored over Mike. I'm not taking a dig at him, it just seems to me the natural outcome will be Chandler knocks him tf out

I will go with Mitchell to score the upset as my pick, and suspect Lopes wins as well.

He’s 8 years younger. Super strong. Vicious jujitsu. And a great chin. And he’s got the size/ reach No guarantee that Chandler will be able to crack his chin if he can close the distance. Paddy just has a ton of physical advantages.
