UFC 310: Pantoja vs. Asakura

As someone who called Luques downfall due to his bad defence, I think he beats Gorimbo here. Themba is not Buckley, nor Neal, or even 40yo RDA tbh, and hasn’t beaten anyone close to Luques level to date. My jaw was on the floor when I saw the odds

Kron might be interesting tbh. Is Bryce really going to avoid the grappling?

I wanted to play Diaz vs Luque but now I might want a stab at Luque vs Themba. All about odds of course

the thing is if Asukura really does manage to cancel his grappling, Pantoja becomes very beatable, seems he's relied too much on his back packing. Almost lost to Erceg who's not as seasoned as Asukura, and Moreno and Royval just didn't have the grappling base to stop him. I dont have enough footage yet to see how good his grappling defense is, it's hard to find. Pantoja has a solid chin but he's got average boxing defense , very hittable to punches. I would not be shocked if we witness an upset where he got wreckless and got stopped early. Just looking at the strike stats, Royval Moreno and Erceg landed a combine 370 significant strikes.

This has some elements of the fight between Patricio Pitbull vs Chihiro Suzuki.

Pitbull came in underestimated his opponent , also had no familiarity with japanese fighters and got koed. And at the time Pitbull had never been koed before, only a leg injury.

Edit: i should back track Asukura doesn't have those lethal heavy hands he might need to pull it off.

Yeah the big thing to me is you have to at least have the ability to survive on the mat vs Pantoja. Moreno, Royval, and Erceg all are solid enough grapplers that they could at least ride out rounds and get a chance to start the next one standing. If you're not capable of that, Pantoja can get to dominant positions and threaten to end things quickly.

I think he'll try, yeah. Bryce has rudimentary striking but it's still better than Kron's. And Kron probably can't get Bryce down barring a slip or something weird happening. There's less risk with Bryce just having a boring sparring match.

But...all that said you gotta factor in the "screw loose" card with Bryce. And that he was knocked into the shadow realm in his last fight so may think grappling is more "safe" even vs someone with Kron's level of bjj.

Bryce is way better striker and wrestler. I even think he has better mma ground game. I think he can control Gracie on the ground, it may looks like Marta Hughes vs Royce Gracie
It won't look like Hughes/Royce haha. Royce was almost 40 and more importantly was sparsely fighting nobodies and freak show exhibitions vs Akebono and shit when the UFC made their cash grab to have him come back and get smoked by a champ in his prime. Royce came in with a withered dadbod, and absolutely nobody who knew the sport at all thought he should be there. Hughes was only -300 or so, I wish I'd have had more $ back then. I bet him and knew he'd absolutely smoke Royce but I just didn't have the bankroll to really capitalize.

Anyway, Kron is 36 and at least understands that you have to be physically able to compete to fight UFC caliber guys. Royce didn't care and was there for a paycheck.

I don't think Kron is dedicated as well and he's delusional

I don't think he's super "dedicated", but he doesn't look like a flabby, shriveled weakling like Royce did.

Even if he doesn't, Kron didn't have much success off his back against Jourdain when they fought. Sure Charles disengaged regularly but he still accrued more than a round of control time across all three rounds. I'm expecting a flat performance from Kron because why wouldn't you? He's never been all that dedicated to MMA, is older, has no other skills besides BJJ and hasn't fought in well over a year.

Yeah, there's just almost no risk standing with Kron though. There's danger on the mat, even if good grapplers can still handle it most of the time. Kron standing is a wooden statue who offers almost nothing.

Gorimbo isn't better than current RDA? That’s silly to say. RDA is physically done.

Luque isn’t in his prime, and if he was prime, then yes he will beat Gorimbo. The odds make sense because Luque is way past his prime. Why else did they offer him to Nick Diaz

I’ve called RDAs last few fights perfectly and think he would beat Gorimbo. But that’s the beautiful thing, let’s revisit in a few weeks. Happy to eat crow

Clay Guida +500 seems big over Hooper who sucks

Hooper is clearly improving though. Dropped Slava Claus while standing, showed awesome gnp instead of just fishing for subs. Softened him up first.

Don't get me wrong, that line is juiced AF. Wouldn't touch Hooper ML. But...Clay is washed and Hooper is on the rise so I kinda get it.

chances we see Shakvat get folded?

It could happen since I doubt Garry would be able to point fight him for 25 minutes, meaning he'll be forced to throw heavy shots to get Shav's respect, but the guy survived clean shots from Neal so I don't know how likely it is that he gets folded here. Imo he cooks up Ian and finishes him.

Younger sub guy vs Guida? No thanks.

Hooper is going to demoliish Guida in rd n1. I give Clay like 2 p chance of winning.
